What is PADI?

The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is the world's largest recreational scuba diver training organisation. Its courses follow a clear ladder from first breaths underwater through to professional ratings, with eLearning for theory and in-water training at PADI Dive Centres.

A PADI certification card is recognised at dive centres globally. Standards are set centrally; local centres choose sites, boats and holiday pacing. That is why two Open Water courses can feel different even though the card is the same.

Choosing a PADI course

Start with honest experience. If you have never dived, Discover Scuba or Open Water are the usual entry points. Rescue Diver expects solid buoyancy and recent diving; book a ReActivate first if your last dive was years ago.

Compare what each centre includes: eLearning fees, kit hire, boat costs and minimum class sizes vary. Leave a comment when you book if you trained with another agency and need a crossover conversation.
