🌊 What to Expect
The lesson starts at the harbour base where participants meet the instructors and receive a full safety briefing before getting fitted with wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and paddling equipment. Once changed, the group heads down to the shoreline for a short land-based introduction covering kayak control, paddle strokes and safety around the water.
After the briefing, participants launch into the sheltered harbour waters where the instructor guides the group through the basics of paddling, steering and controlling the kayaks. The calm conditions make it easier for beginners to build confidence while practising turning, balance and movement on the water. Single and double kayaks are available, allowing families and younger children to paddle together where needed.
As confidence grows, the lesson may include fun kayak games and small challenges designed to improve coordination and paddling technique in a relaxed atmosphere. The harbour environment also gives participants the chance to spot local wildlife, including the resident grey seals sometimes seen around the water. Returning to shore, the session finishes with a debrief before heading back to base for showers and changing facilities.
