Perfect for first-time riders and younger ocean enthusiasts, these beginner bodyboard lessons introduce the fundamentals of wave riding in a supportive and fun environment. With coaching from experienced instructors, participants quickly learn how to catch waves, improve confidence in the sea and develop essential ocean awareness skills.
The lesson begins at the harbour base where participants meet the instructors for a safety briefing before getting fitted with wetsuits, bodyboards and safety equipment. Once everyone is ready, the group heads down to the beach for a warm-up and introduction to body positioning, paddling techniques and basic ocean safety before entering the water.
Once in the surf, instructors guide participants through the fundamentals of catching white water waves and controlling the board in moving water. Coaching takes place throughout the session, helping beginners improve timing, positioning and confidence in the surf zone while learning how to ride waves safely back towards the beach. The atmosphere remains relaxed and supportive, making the lesson suitable for complete beginners and younger participants wanting an introduction to wave riding.
As confidence builds, participants have the chance to practise longer rides and improve control while instructors continue offering feedback between waves. Returning to shore, the session finishes with a debrief before heading back to base for showers and changing facilities.
Newquay Harbour provides easy access to nearby beaches and beginner-friendly surf conditions suitable for introducing bodyboarding skills safely. Depending on the conditions on the day, instructors choose the most appropriate area for learning and wave practice.

Group sessions are suitable for participants aged 8 and above. Children aged 5 to 7 can join through private lessons, which allow instructors to adapt the pace and conditions more closely around younger participants.
Using years of experience across surfing and ocean coaching, the team focuses on helping beginners feel comfortable in the water while learning the fundamentals of bodyboarding safely.
