Take on one of Cornwall’s most adventurous coastal activities with these guided coasteering sessions around the Newquay coastline. Combining cliff jumping, sea swimming, scrambling and cave exploration, each trip follows natural routes along the shoreline while adapting to the confidence and ability of the group.
The adventure begins at the harbour base with introductions, equipment fitting and a detailed safety briefing before heading towards the coastline to begin the session. Instructors explain movement techniques, coastal safety and how to approach the different obstacles and natural features found along the route before entering the water.
Once underway, participants move gradually along the coastline using a mixture of wild swimming, scrambling, low-level climbing and water entries to explore sections of coast inaccessible by land. Depending on sea conditions and group confidence, the route may include cliff jumps, sea caves, swell channels and natural rock formations while instructors adapt the experience to suit individual comfort levels throughout the session.
The trip focuses on exploration and adventure rather than speed, allowing participants to experience the coastline from a completely different perspective. Some sections involve swimming through moving water or climbing between rocky features, while other moments allow time to stop, observe local wildlife and take in hidden parts of the coast often missed from above. After completing the route, the group returns to the harbour base for a debrief, showers and changing facilities.
Launching from Newquay Harbour provides quick access to sections of coastline well suited for coasteering adventures, including cliffs, caves, rocky inlets and sheltered water features. The surrounding coastline offers varied terrain that allows instructors to adapt routes depending on the sea conditions and group ability.
The harbour setting also provides sheltered entry points and convenient access to changing facilities, equipment storage and nearby parking before and after the activity.
No previous coasteering experience is required before joining the session, although participants should feel comfortable around open water and coastal environments.
Private sessions are available for younger participants aged 5 to 7, with adults required to accompany children aged 5 to 11 during private trips.
Using decades of experience guiding coasteering adventures around Cornwall, the instructor team focuses on creating safe and enjoyable sessions suited to a wide range of confidence levels and abilities. Routes are adapted around the conditions and participants, helping both beginners and adventurous groups enjoy the coastline at their own pace.
Sam brings over 25 years of coasteering experience and has played a direct role within the National Coasteering Charter training and assessment system. Combined with experienced guides and direct access from Newquay Harbour, participants benefit from professional instruction and realistic coastal adventure routes throughout the session.
