Give your kids a 2-hour surf lesson with children their own age, built to grow confidence, teach the basics and keep things fun. Extra-small groups mean plenty of one-to-one time, healthy surf habits and a safe start in the white water. Their surfing journey is in good hands from the moment they arrive.
The lesson starts the moment they arrive. We'll check in with your kids, see how they're feeling, calm any nerves and get them in the right mindset, then kit them out in wetsuits, pair them with boards and walk them to the beach. On the sand we cover safety, ocean awareness, the basics of surfing and a warm-up before they paddle out.
In the shallows they practise paddling and catching small waves under close supervision, then move on to standing up with plenty of one-to-one coaching through our Focus Sessions. The instructor spends two or three wave blocks with each child on one skill or problem, so they progress faster. Expect fun, silliness, laughter, encouragement and lots of high-fives, plus a local discount on coffees, hot chocolates, pastries and ice cream on the day.
Lessons take place at Watergate Bay, a short drive from Newquay. The wide, soft sandy shoreline and consistent waves make it a local favourite and a brilliant spot for first-timers as well as more experienced surfers.
There's plenty of space in the water, gentle white water for beginners and soft sand underfoot, so it stays a safe and fun place for kids to build their skills.
Children must be between 8 and 13 to join this session. No prior surfing experience is needed, but they should feel comfortable in the water and be able to swim a short distance unaided.
If your child has any medical conditions or additional needs, please tell us in advance so we can give them the best possible session.
Adam and Gemma run this as a couple-owned surf school, and they set out to build a session around empathy, professionalism, knowledge and fun. They take your child's time in the water personally, and their goal is to make this the highlight of your trip to Cornwall.
Our hand-picked instructors create a positive, supportive environment and treat every lesson as a chance to keep kids surfing long after they leave. Super-small groups, longer one-to-one time, well-kept kit and exclusive local discounts are all part of that.
You'll meet us at Watergate Bay, about a minute from our HQ in Newquay Bay Resort and around 10 minutes from Newquay town centre. That's where we kit the children out and walk them down to the sand.
If conditions mean we need to move the lesson, we'll give you plenty of notice so you can get there without a rush and still have time to change.
Please arrive 30 minutes before the lesson so we have time to check the children in and get them into wetsuits. That buffer also gives us a chance to see how they are feeling before they walk to the beach.
On weekends, school holidays and sunny days, give yourself extra time for traffic and parking around the bay. The closest car parks fill quickly when the weather is good.
We sit on The Green, opposite Wax Beach Bar and next to the council car park. Just Park Wallet can sometimes save you a little on the council spaces if you book ahead.
There's more parking opposite Watergate Bay Hotel and on the southern cliff overlooking the bay if the closest car park is full. Allow a short walk down to the beach from those overflow spots.
Children should arrive in swimwear with slip-on shoes so changing into a wetsuit is quick. We provide the wetsuit and board, and boots in the cooler months, so they do not need their own kit unless you prefer it.
Bring sun cream, water, a towel and a change of clothes for afterwards. If they want a shower after the session, bring some change for the machines on the beach.
We can look after your car keys while the children surf, which is usually the simplest way to keep the vehicle locked. There is not a locker room for bags or valuables at the beach base.
Leave clothes and other belongings locked in your vehicle before you come down to the sand. Wet kit and a towel are easier to manage if you keep the rest of the day bag in the car.
We surf in the rain. A wet day often means better waves, and the children will be in wetsuits anyway, so a shower rarely spoils the session.
We only cancel if the beach is red-flagged or we decide conditions aren't safe. If that happens, we'll reschedule you or refund the lesson so you are not left without a plan.
Children are welcome to wear their own wetsuit, though we may still suggest one of ours depending on how thick it is and how cold the water feels. Our suits are chosen for the lesson and the time of year.
If you'd like them to use their own surfboard, message us on Adventuro chat before the day so we can check it suits the session. Kids lessons usually work better on our lesson boards, which are more stable in the white water.
This session is for children aged 8 to 13 who want a surf adventure with kids their own age, without mum and dad in the water. No prior surfing experience is needed.
They should be comfortable in the water and able to swim a short distance unaided. If your child has additional needs, tell us in advance so we can plan the session properly.
Your booking covers a 2-hour session including getting ready, a qualified instructor, a wetsuit, a surfboard and changing facilities. In the cooler months we also include wetsuit boots.
Groups are capped at 5 children per instructor so they get more one-to-one time than a standard kids lesson. Towels, swimwear, food and transport are not included.
Focus Sessions are how we coach in the water. The instructor spends two or three wave blocks with each child on one skill or problem, rather than calling the same tip at the whole group from the shore.
That extra attention is why we keep this class to five children. They get clear feedback on the next wave, then the instructor rotates so everyone still gets their turn and plenty of high-fives.
