Combining beginner paddleboarding instruction with a guided coastal adventure, these SUP sessions are designed for participants wanting to learn new skills while exploring beyond the harbour. Starting in sheltered calm water before heading along the coastline, the experience offers a relaxed mix of coaching, paddling and coastal discovery.
The session begins at the harbour base where participants receive a safety briefing before getting fitted with winter wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles. Once changed, the instructor leads the group onto the beach for a short land-based lesson covering balance, paddle technique and board control before launching into the sheltered waters of Newquay Harbour.
Within the calm harbour environment, participants practise standing, paddling, turning and manoeuvring while receiving coaching from the instructor. The sheltered conditions help beginners build confidence quickly before progressing out towards the coastline. Once the group feels comfortable controlling the boards, the session moves beyond the harbour entrance for a guided paddle along the coast, exploring quieter sections of water, rocky inlets and hidden areas often missed from land.
Along the route, guides share local knowledge about the coastline, wildlife and sea conditions while keeping the pace suitable for mixed abilities. Private group sessions allow the route and coaching style to be adapted around the group’s confidence level, whether focusing more on technique, relaxed touring or a mixture of both. Returning to shore, there is time for a debrief before heading back to base for showers and changing facilities.
Launching from Newquay Harbour gives direct access to sheltered beginner-friendly water while also allowing quick progression onto the open coastline for guided touring sessions. The protected harbour conditions create an ideal learning environment before paddling further along the coast.
Outside the harbour, the coastline offers rocky sections, sea life and quieter paddling areas which create a scenic route for the tour element of the session. Exploring by paddleboard provides a slower and more immersive way to experience this part of Cornwall.
No previous paddleboarding experience is required for the lesson and coastal tour sessions. Instructors guide participants through all techniques gradually before heading further along the coastline.
Mixed sessions are suitable for participants aged 12 and above. Private group bookings are available for participants aged 5 and above, with children aged 5 to 11 requiring an adult to remain on site during the activity.
Using years of paddleboarding and coastal guiding experience, the team has developed a session that combines skill development with relaxed exploration of the coastline. Small coaching groups and sheltered teaching conditions help participants build confidence quickly before progressing further onto the water.
Mel brings extensive experience in paddleboarding and watersports activities, helping guests choose sessions suited to their ability and plans while ensuring the atmosphere stays welcoming and enjoyable throughout. Operating directly from Newquay Harbour also provides access to excellent beginner water and scenic coastal touring routes.
