Take to the water on a tandem kayak from Milford Beach, with views stretching across the Milford Haven Estuary. This is a great way for friends or family members to share the paddling, with up to two tandems available per session and single kayaks as an alternative if needed.
Before you get started, all participants will receive a full safety briefing from trained staff, covering how to stay safe on the water, use the equipment correctly, and stick within the designated paddling area. Tandem kayaks are designed for two people and are ideal for those who want to work as a pair. Whether you’re trying it for the first time or just want a relaxed session afloat, the tandem makes paddling easier and more stable than going solo.
You’ll have access to a clearly marked safe zone just off Milford Beach, where you can paddle, take in the views of the estuary, and get a feel for controlling the kayak. The Milford Haven Waterway is a tidal location, so session availability is based around the tides. No hires take place 1.5 hours either side of low tide, and it’s always recommended to book close to high tide for the best paddling conditions. Wetsuits and wetsuit shoes can be hired on-site for a small extra cost.
Based on Milford Waterfront, the centre is right on Milford Beach, with direct access to a clean and safe stretch of the Milford Haven Estuary. This spot is ideal for those wanting to try watersports in a calm and scenic setting that’s well supervised and easy to reach.
The surrounding waterfront area includes local cafés, shops and walking routes, making it a great place to spend the day even after your session ends. Free parking is available nearby, and all hires begin from the beachside unit at the edge of the marina.
Participants must be at least 8 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied on the water by an adult. Everyone will be required to wear a buoyancy aid for the duration of the session, which is included in the hire.
No previous kayaking experience is required, but you should be confident in the water and able to follow safety instructions. Staff will talk you through the basics before you begin.
This beach-based watersports centre has a strong focus on safety, accessibility and fun. Every hire includes a full safety briefing, buoyancy aids, and use of high-quality equipment. Staff are trained in first aid, safeguarding and emergency recovery, and always carry radios to maintain contact and respond quickly if needed.
The centre has been built around making the most of the Milford Haven Waterway while ensuring that all users feel supported and confident on the water. Whether you’re looking to try something new or enjoy a day out with friends, the team is there to make sure your experience is enjoyable, safe and easy to access.
It’s recommended to wear clothes suitable for getting wet, such as swimwear or quick-drying sportswear. You should also bring a change of clothes and a towel for after your session. Footwear like water shoes or trainers that can get wet is best, although wetsuit shoe hire is available for a small additional fee.
Additionally, it’s important to bring sun protection, including sunscreen and a hat, as you’ll be exposed to the sun while on the water. Drinking water is advised to stay hydrated. Make sure to leave valuables onshore as there are no waterproof storage options on the kayaks.
Yes, tandem kayaks are ideal for beginners because they are stable and easier to control with two people paddling. Before you start, you’ll receive a full safety briefing explaining paddling techniques and how to steer, making it straightforward to get started even if you have no prior experience.
The staff will remain nearby during your session to provide support and advice as needed. The designated paddling area is calm and safe, specifically chosen to be beginner-friendly and sheltered from strong currents or waves.
Sessions typically last around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on tide conditions and availability. This gives you plenty of time to paddle around the designated safe area, enjoy the views, and get comfortable in the kayak without feeling rushed.
Booking is timed around the tides, so it’s best to plan your session close to high tide for the most enjoyable conditions. Staff will provide guidance on the best session times when you book.
The minimum age for participants is 8 years old. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult on the water to ensure their safety and support throughout the session.
There is no upper age limit, but all participants should be in reasonable physical health and able to follow safety instructions. If you have any medical concerns, it’s best to discuss them with staff before booking.
All participants are required to wear buoyancy aids, which are provided as part of the hire. The safety briefing before the session covers how to stay safe on the water, use the equipment correctly, and what to do in case of an emergency.
Staff are fully trained in first aid and water rescue techniques, and they carry VHF radios to call for immediate help if necessary. The paddling area is carefully monitored and selected for its calm conditions to minimise risk.
