Get out on the water with paddle board hire at Milford Beach and enjoy the freedom of a self-led session in a safe, designated area. Whether you're new to paddle boarding or just looking for a fun way to spend time outdoors, this is a great option for individuals, families, or small groups.
Once you check in, you’ll be fitted with a buoyancy aid and given a full safety briefing before heading out from Milford Beach. Paddleboard sessions take place within a clearly marked area close to shore, giving you the chance to build confidence and enjoy the estuary without drifting into open water. This space is ideal for practising balance, paddling techniques, and turning — all at your own pace.
Sessions are up to 1.5 hours long and must be scheduled outside the 3-hour low tide window (no hires will take place 1.5 hours before or after low tide). Staff remain onshore with VHF radios and are available to assist if conditions change or if support is needed. In some weather or tidal conditions, they may suggest using a kayak instead of a paddleboard to make sure your session remains safe and enjoyable.
Milford Beach is based on the Milford Haven Estuary, offering sheltered water with gentle conditions well-suited to beginners. The designated paddle boarding zone is close to the beach and monitored by trained staff, providing a relaxed setting for people of all ages to give it a go.
The hire area is located right next to Milford Waterfront, which has a variety of cafés, shops, public toilets, and parking within a short walk. It’s a great spot to make a day of your visit, whether you’re coming alone or with a group.
All participants must be able to swim at least 25 metres and feel confident in the water. Buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn at all times.
Under 18s must be supervised by a parent or guardian for the full duration of the session. This applies to all hire bookings, regardless of experience.
This centre is run by a trained and experienced team who specialise in keeping water-based sessions safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all ages. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be given the guidance and equipment you need to feel prepared and confident on the water.
Safety is a top priority, with all hires including buoyancy aids, a full briefing, and shore staff equipped with radios to monitor activity and provide help if needed. Whether you're here for a one-off paddle or bringing the whole family, the team works hard to ensure your session is well-supported from start to finish.
You’ll need swimwear or clothing you're happy to get wet in, a towel, and a full change of clothes for after your session. If you're not hiring a wetsuit, synthetic or quick-drying layers are ideal.
Footwear like wetsuit shoes or old trainers can help protect your feet when launching. Suncream, a hat, and a bottle of water are also recommended, especially on warmer days.
Yes, paddleboard hire is suitable for complete beginners. Before heading out, you’ll receive a safety briefing covering paddling basics, how to stay within the designated area, and what to do if you fall in.
The hire zone is close to shore with calm, sheltered waters, so it’s a comfortable place to try paddleboarding for the first time. Staff remain nearby onshore with radios in case support is needed.
Yes, all participants must be able to swim at least 25 metres and feel confident in the water. While buoyancy aids are included and must be worn, swimming ability is important for safety.
If you fall in, you’ll need to be able to get back onto your board or swim a short distance. If you're unsure, you may want to consider a different activity that feels more stable.
Conditions are monitored regularly, and staff may suggest switching to a kayak or postponing your hire if it becomes too windy or choppy. Your safety and comfort are the priority.
If the weather forces cancellation, you'll be offered a chance to reschedule or receive a refund depending on the situation. Staff will always aim to give you notice as early as possible.
Public toilets are available nearby at Milford Waterfront. These are within easy walking distance from the beach and include baby change and accessible facilities.
There are no private changing rooms, so arriving in your swimwear is a good idea. A towel or changing robe can help if you need to change by the beach after your session.
Children aged 8 and above can join paddleboard hire sessions, but they must be confident swimmers and accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Each child will be given their own buoyancy aid and a briefing to help them understand where and how they’re allowed to paddle. The calm water makes it ideal for younger paddlers under adult supervision.
