Gain practical outdoor first aid training designed for real environments, covering emergency response, incident management and essential life saving skills for remote settings. This course focuses on preparing you to act confidently when incidents happen away from immediate support. Training is hands on throughout and built around realistic outdoor scenarios.
The 8 hour course focuses on core outdoor first aid skills delivered through a mix of practical instruction, demonstrations and scenario based learning. You’ll cover essential topics such as managing unconscious casualties, controlling bleeding, treating burns and responding to common injuries in outdoor environments. Each element is reinforced through hands on practice so you can apply skills immediately.
The 16 hour option builds on this foundation across two days, allowing more time for extended scenarios and advanced casualty management. Day one establishes the core skills, while day two develops more complex situations including spinal injuries, major illness recognition and improvised evacuation techniques. This structure helps reinforce decision making in situations where help may be delayed.
Both courses make use of outdoor environments wherever possible, with realistic scenarios designed to reflect situations faced in remote or active settings. You’ll work in small groups, rotating through different incident setups that require assessment, prioritisation and response under pressure.
Training takes place at Brighton Marina in Sussex, a coastal environment that allows for varied and practical scenario setups. The area provides a mix of open outdoor space and sheltered zones, making it suitable for both instruction and realistic incident simulations.
The setting is easy to reach and offers a practical base for moving between briefings and outdoor exercises. Depending on the activity, you may work in different areas around the marina to reflect a range of outdoor conditions and scenarios.
Participants must be 18 or older to join the course. No previous first aid experience is needed as all core skills are taught from the beginning in a structured and progressive way.
You should be comfortable taking part in outdoor practical sessions, as the course involves hands on activity in different conditions. A willingness to engage in scenario based learning is important, as this is a key part of building confidence and ability.
Training is delivered by instructors with backgrounds in emergency response, outdoor instruction and rescue environments. This includes experience as paramedics, lifeguards and members of outdoor rescue teams, ensuring the course is grounded in real operational practice.
Tom’s experience as a Royal Marines Commando and professional stuntman brings a strong focus on controlled decision making and working effectively in high pressure outdoor situations. His time operating in demanding maritime and land based environments helps shape training that reflects real world conditions.
The approach is practical and scenario led, focusing on building confidence through repetition and applied learning. Sessions are designed to reflect unpredictable outdoor situations so participants leave with skills they can rely on when it matters.
The 8 hour course covers the core outdoor first aid skills in a single day, focusing on essential emergency response techniques and common injury management. It is designed for those needing a solid foundation or meeting basic instructor requirements.
The 16 hour course runs over two days and expands on the core training with more advanced scenarios and extended casualty management. It includes additional topics such as spinal injuries, major illness recognition and evacuation techniques, making it more suitable for outdoor leaders and instructors.
