Enjoy a relaxed family paddle along the Milford Haven Estuary with a shoreline tour led by a qualified instructor. Starting from Milford Marina, this guided session offers a safe and enjoyable way to explore the area by kayak or paddleboard, with stories of the region’s past adding interest along the way.
After arriving at Milford Marina, your instructor will provide a full safety briefing and ensure all safety gear is correctly fitted before heading out. You’ll set off from the shoreline when tides are suitable—sessions are not run within 1.5 hours either side of low tide—so do check the tide tables in advance. The water here is relatively sheltered, making it a good environment for beginners and younger paddlers under close supervision.
The guided shoreline tour takes your group along a section of the Milford Haven Estuary, revealing a mix of natural beauty and historical features. Your instructor will point out key landmarks along the route, from the remains of coastal military defences to evidence of the area’s industrial past. There are also local tales to be shared, including stories of Viking visitors. It’s a peaceful, interesting route with opportunities for conversation and questions, and the pace is tailored to the group’s confidence level. Expect around 60 to 90 minutes on the water depending on weather and tide conditions.
This session takes place on the Milford Haven Estuary, launching from Milford Marina which overlooks Milford Beach. The estuary is known for its calm waters at suitable tides, making it ideal for family-friendly paddling.
You’ll be within a short walk of the waterfront’s amenities including toilets, parking, and places to eat or relax before or after your activity. Please allow a little extra time for arrival and briefings.
Participants must be at least 8 years old and confident in the water, although swimming ability is not essential as buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn at all times. Under-18s must be accompanied by their own parent—each child must have their own parent present, even when joining as part of a wider family group.
If you're unsure about the supervision requirements, especially if your child wishes to bring a friend, please contact the team in advance for clarification. The rules are in place to meet legal safeguarding requirements and to make sure everyone is properly supported during the activity.
This well-established centre is based right on the Milford Waterfront, offering direct access to the calm, scenic waters of the estuary. Sessions are delivered by qualified staff who are trained in first aid, water safety, and safeguarding, ensuring a secure environment for families.
All equipment is provided, and safety briefings are included with every hire. Staff carry VHF radios for emergency support and are experienced in recovering users and equipment when needed. You’ll be supported every step of the way by a friendly, knowledgeable team that puts safety and customer experience first.
Each hire includes the use of a single or tandem sit-on-top kayak, paddles, and a buoyancy aid which must be worn at all times. A full safety briefing is also provided before you get on the water.
Staff will explain the designated paddling area and any conditions relevant to your session. Optional extras such as wetsuit and wetsuit shoe hire are available for a small additional fee.
There is no fixed time limit, but the length of your session will depend on the tide times, as activities are not permitted 1.5 hours before or after low tide. The most suitable time to hire is as close to high tide as possible.
Staff will let you know how long you’re able to stay on the water based on the current conditions. All users must return their equipment by the advised time given during the briefing.
Yes, children aged 8 and above are welcome to take part. They must be accompanied by an adult on the water or closely supervised from shore, depending on their age and confidence.
You should wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet—quick-drying tops, swimwear, and water shoes or old trainers work well. Avoid jeans or heavy fabrics.
Wetsuits and wetsuit shoes are available for hire on request. It's also a good idea to bring a towel and a change of clothes for after your session, especially if you're planning to stay in the area.
You’ll be shown a clearly marked, designated paddling area just off Milford Beach. This space has been selected for its safety and proximity to shore, making it ideal for all experience levels.
For your safety, you're required to stay within this zone throughout your session. Staff remain onshore with radios and are trained to assist if needed.
If the weather or sea conditions are unsuitable, the centre may decide to cancel or postpone sessions for safety reasons. You’ll be notified as early as possible and offered an alternative time or a refund.
It’s always best to check the forecast and tide times when planning your visit. Light rain is usually fine, but high winds or rough conditions may lead to cancellations.
