One hour or two hours from the moment you leave the beach or harbour after the brief. Most people take an hour for a first independent paddle, and two hours if they already know the bay.

Give yourself 15 minutes at the base so the ID check and the brief do not eat into that window. Starts run through the day from about 10am when the sea is suitable.

Tenby North Beach or Saundersfoot Harbour. Name which base you want when you book. Tenby parking is at North Beach Car Park, SA70 8AG, then walk down to the sand. Saundersfoot is at the harbour.

If wind or sea state makes one base unusable, we message you. Check your messages the evening before if you are travelling a long way.

Sit-on-top kayak, paddle and buoyancy aid. We match a single or a double to your group. A short brief covers the day's wind, tide and where you can paddle.

A wetsuit is extra if you want one. Leave phones and bags in the car. If someone needs medication on the water, keep it in a dry pocket or a small dry bag you can wear.

Hire is for people who already feel confident steering, stopping and coming back in without a guide. We still give a short brief, but we are not coaching you around the bay.

If you have only sat in a kayak once, say so when you collect. We would rather keep you closer to the beach than send you past the harbour wall on a first independent hour.

Anyone under 18 needs an adult with them on the water. An adult over 18 must complete the disclaimer and leave ID. Children should be happy sitting in a kayak and getting wet.

Doubles work well for an adult and a child. Tell us ages and heights so we can put the right craft out on the sand.

Ordinary rain does not stop kayak hire. We hold or move the slot when wind or sea state makes the bay unsafe, or if we cannot launch from the planned base.

Check your messages before you travel. Safety comes first, and we would rather wait for a usable window than send you out in a messy sea.

Swimwear, a towel, a warm dry layer, sunscreen, shoes you are happy to get wet, and a valid ID for the deposit. A water bottle helps. Get changed before you arrive if you want to skip the queue.

Flip-flops are fine for the walk down, then come off if they will not stay on in the kayak. Leave valuables in the car.

Not on a warm summer hour if you are happy in a swimming costume or shorts. The sea around Tenby and Saundersfoot still feels cold, so many people add a wetsuit for a two-hour slot.

Tell us sizes in advance so we can have suits ready. Your own full-length suit is fine. Shorties work for this hire in midsummer.

Double sit-on-tops are there for two adults, or an adult and a child, when you want to paddle together. We match the craft when you arrive rather than asking you to guess online.

Singles are there if everyone in the group already paddles on their own. Tell us numbers so both types can be on the sand when you get there.

A driving licence, passport or debit or credit card, left as a deposit while the kayak is out. An adult over 18 must complete the safety disclaimer before anyone goes on the water.

We return the ID when the kayak comes back in the same condition. Keep the brief in mind and stay inside the area we mark out for that day's tide.
