Experience one of Morocco's most memorable sunrise activities as you drift peacefully above the landscapes surrounding Marrakech. Watching the first light spread across the Red City and the distant Atlas Mountains offers a completely different perspective of the region, creating a calm and unforgettable start to the day.
Beginning before sunrise, you'll be collected from your accommodation in Marrakech and driven to the launch site while the skies are still dark. Early morning provides the most suitable flying conditions, with calmer winds and excellent visibility, allowing you to enjoy the landscape as daylight gradually appears across the horizon.
After arriving, you'll meet your experienced pilot and ground crew for a full safety briefing. Before boarding, you'll have the chance to watch the balloon being inflated, a fascinating process as the colourful envelope slowly rises into shape. If you'd like, there is often an opportunity to take photographs or watch the preparations from close by before stepping into the basket.
Once airborne, the balloon rises gently above the countryside surrounding Marrakech, revealing wide views across the palm groves, villages and open landscapes below. As the sun climbs higher, the snow-capped Atlas Mountains become visible in the distance while Marrakech gradually comes to life beneath you. The peaceful nature of ballooning allows plenty of time to admire the scenery and capture memorable photographs without any sudden movements or noise.
After approximately 45 minutes in the air, the balloon lands smoothly before you return to Marrakech by vehicle. If arranged in advance, breakfast can be enjoyed following the flight before your return transfer to your accommodation.
Flights take place from launch sites on the outskirts of Marrakech, chosen according to daily weather conditions to provide the safest and most enjoyable flying experience. Although departure points may vary, all return transfers from your hotel or riad are included.
Flying during sunrise offers impressive views across the plains surrounding Marrakech, with the Atlas Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop in the distance. Every flight is slightly different, as the exact route is determined by the wind, making each experience unique.
Working with experienced balloon pilots and professional ground crews, every flight places safety, comfort and customer experience first. From hotel collection through to landing, the entire experience is carefully organised to provide a relaxed and enjoyable morning.
Early departures allow you to experience one of the best times of day to fly, when the air is calm and the morning light creates excellent conditions for sightseeing and photography.
The full experience lasts approximately three hours, including hotel transfers, the pre-flight briefing, balloon preparation, the flight itself and the return journey to Marrakech.
The actual hot air balloon flight normally lasts around 45 minutes, although this can vary slightly depending on weather conditions and suitable landing locations.
Hot air balloons fly during the early morning because the weather is usually much calmer and more stable than later in the day. These conditions provide smoother flights and allow the pilot greater control over the balloon.
Flying at sunrise also offers some of the clearest views of Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains, making it one of the most rewarding times for photography.

Children should be comfortable standing for the duration of the flight and able to follow the pilot's safety instructions during take-off and landing.
Depending on the day's weather and wind direction, you'll enjoy panoramic views across the countryside surrounding Marrakech, with the Atlas Mountains often clearly visible on the horizon.
The changing morning light creates excellent opportunities to photograph villages, palm groves, open plains and the distant mountains from a completely different perspective.
Yes. Flights are operated by experienced pilots who only fly when weather conditions are suitable. Before departure you'll receive a full safety briefing explaining the flight and what to expect during take-off and landing.
If weather conditions are not considered safe, flights may be delayed or rescheduled to ensure passenger safety.
Early mornings around Marrakech can feel surprisingly cool, even during the warmer months, so bringing a light jacket or jumper is recommended.
Comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe shoes are ideal, as you'll be standing throughout the flight and walking a short distance around the launch site.
Absolutely. A hot air balloon offers one of the best viewpoints for photography around Marrakech, particularly during sunrise when the light is soft and visibility is often excellent.
Most passengers bring either a camera or smartphone, although it's recommended to keep devices securely attached while in the basket.
Breakfast can be arranged, but it must be requested when booking the experience in advance.
If breakfast has not been added to your reservation, you'll return to Marrakech after the flight where you can enjoy breakfast at your accommodation or one of the city's many cafés.
