Cross the High Atlas on one of Morocco's most scenic drives to reach Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa, then finish at Ait Ben Haddou, the fortified clay ksar seen in Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia. The day is built for history, architecture and a proper kasbah hike.
We'll start early and climb the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, at 2,260 metres the highest road in the High Atlas, with stops at viewpoints and traditional tea houses. In Ouarzazate you visit Kasbah Taourirt, a restored 19th-century kasbah, and pass the Atlas Film Studios, one of the largest studio complexes in the world.
The afternoon belongs to Ait Ben Haddou. You'll hike through its narrow lanes and up toward the granary at the top, with sweeping views over the Ounila valley, before the evening drive back to Marrakech over the same mountain pass.
Ouarzazate sits on the southern side of the High Atlas, reached via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, roughly halfway between Marrakech and the Sahara. Ait Ben Haddou is a short drive further, a striking example of earthen architecture beside the river.
The road itself is part of the experience, with mountain villages, valleys and, in season, snow on the higher peaks. Because the distances are long, we keep an early start so you still have proper time on foot at the ksar.
The hike at Ait Ben Haddou uses uneven, sometimes steep paths, so sturdy footwear is important. You do not need mountain fitness, though you should be comfortable walking for a stretch after several hours in the vehicle.
Sun protection is worth packing. The region stays sunny and dry for much of the year, even when the pass feels cooler.
We know this mountain route well and time the day so the pass, the kasbah and the ksar hike all fit without you driving it yourself. An English-speaking guide stays with you from pickup in Marrakech through the walk at Ait Ben Haddou.
Our days out are built for first-timers as much as film fans. You'll get local context at Taourirt, a real walk through the ksar rather than a quick photo stop, and a clear return to your hotel or riad in the evening.
Pickup from your Marrakech hotel or riad is around 7am for this longer mountain day. Share your accommodation details when you enquire so a nearby collection point can be arranged if you are staying in the medina.
The full outing runs about 12 hours. An early start is what leaves proper time on foot at Ait Ben Haddou later.
The Tizi n'Tichka Pass reaches 2,260 metres, with winding mountain views, Berber villages and, in season, snow on the higher peaks. Photo stops and traditional tea houses are built into the drive so you are not rushing the pass.

In Ouarzazate you visit Kasbah Taourirt, a restored 19th-century kasbah, and pass the Atlas Film Studios. Studio entry is optional and not included, and can often be arranged if there is time and interest.
Lunch is not included. Your guide can recommend a restaurant in Ouarzazate, often with panoramic views. Bring cash, as smaller places may not accept cards.

The evening drive returns over the same mountain pass, with drop-off in Marrakech around 7pm. Shared and private options are both available for groups of up to 16.
You are collected from your hotel or riad in Marrakech around 7am for the drive over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Many riads sit on pedestrian lanes, so the driver may park nearby and meet you on foot, or a nearby pickup point can be arranged if you are staying in the medina.
At the end of this longer day you are dropped back at the nearest accessible point to your accommodation, usually by around 7pm. Share your hotel or riad name and a mobile number when you enquire so pickup logistics stay simple.
