This is a flexible day walk product offering five distinct routes into the High Atlas Mountains from Imlil, so you can pick the walk that suits your fitness level and interests.
Options range from gentle scenic walks through Berber villages and terraced fields to more demanding full-day treks toward the Chamharouch Shrine and Toubkal Valley. Each route gives a genuine taste of Atlas Mountain scenery, culture and village life without requiring an overnight stay, and the five options are detailed step by step below.
All five routes depart from and return to Imlil, the main trekking village for the High Atlas Mountains, around an hour's drive from Marrakech. The routes fan out east and west of Imlil into the Imnane and Azzaden valleys and towards the Toubkal Valley, so the same base village gives access to several distinct landscapes.
Certified local guides with deep knowledge of the Atlas Mountains accompany every route, and private or small-group departures can be arranged.
Difficulty varies by option, ranging from gentle valley walks suitable for most fitness levels to longer, more demanding full-day hikes through forests and mountain passes. Our team can help you choose the right route based on your fitness and experience.
Choosing from five routes means the day can be matched to your group rather than a single fixed itinerary, and no overnight stay is required, making it an easy and flexible day trip from Marrakech.
You'll walk through real mountain villages and meet local families along the way, with the option of a private or small-group departure for a more personal experience.
It depends on your fitness level and interests. Option 1, the Tizi n'Tamatert Pass, suits easy to moderate walkers and photographers, while Option 2, the Tasghimout Ridge, suits active walkers wanting ridge views.
Option 3 is best for strong hikers wanting a longer, more immersive day, and Options 4 and 5, the Chamharouch Shrine routes, suit those wanting a cultural pilgrim-trail experience, either privately or as part of a group.
No, all five routes are designed as single-day walks with no overnight stay required, making this an easy and flexible option for travellers on a tight schedule.
Each route departs from and returns to Imlil on the same day, so no additional mountain accommodation needs to be arranged.
Option 4 is run as a private departure for your group only, offering a more personal pace and experience along the pilgrim trail to the shrine.
Option 5 follows the identical route but is a shared group departure, making it a more budget-friendly, social option for solo travellers or small groups.
All routes depart from and return to Imlil, with pickup available from Marrakech. Imlil is around an hour's drive from Marrakech and is the main trekking village for the High Atlas Mountains.
Your guide will confirm the exact meeting point in Imlil, or arrange pickup from your Marrakech accommodation.
