To qualify for the ISA Open Water SUP Instructor Course, candidates must have already completed the ISA Flat Water SUP Instructor Course. While all post-course elements don’t need to be finalised for enrollment, they must be fully completed to receive the Open Water qualification.

Key steps for obtaining the ISA Open Water SUP Instructor qualification include:

  1. Participation in the 1 Day ISA Open Water SUP Instructor Course.
  2. Successful completion of course requirements, such as:
    1. Analysing the training venue.
    2. Creating a basic lesson plan for Open Water SUP.
    3. Conducting an Open Water SUP lesson.
    4. Demonstrating fundamental stand-up paddling skills.
    5. Accumulating 10 hours of practical instructing under a Supervisor Instructor, who will validate your competencies.
    6. Completion of the Open Water SUP Instructor Workbook.
    7. Achievement and proficiency in an Open Water Aquatic Rescue Award.
    8. Membership in the National Governing Body for SUP is highly recommended.

Upon fulfilling these requirements, the trainee instructor must submit their completed Workbook to the Course Organiser, the National Governing Body, or the designated course official for accreditation.


Training occurs at picturesque locations in Pembrokeshire, providing diverse open water conditions ideal for comprehensive SUP instruction. Our main centre is at Gupton Farm. The precise meeting point will be communicated upon booking.

Yes we are. We have £10 million public liability insurance and all instructors & surf crew are fully qualified & members of the NGB.

Accommodation is not included in the cost of the course but we can recommend great value for money accommodation in the nearby area.

Food is not included, but there are local cafes nearby and a small supermarket about a 15-minute drive away. If you do need to heat up your food, we do have a microwave available onsite, and don’t worry there is a kettle available for unlimited tea and coffee.

Yes, all ISA courses require an up to date lifesaving qualification too which can be completed before or after your course. If you are interested in doing your lifesaving course with us please let us know upon booking.
