What is APPI?
APPI (the Association of Paragliding Pilots and Instructors) provides a structured international progression for paragliding pilots. Schools in the APPI network deliver training against shared standards, so APPI 1 in the UK follows the same philosophy as APPI 1 abroad, subject to local air law and site rules.
Courses blend ground handling, theory and supervised flights. Early levels focus on launches, landings and canopy control on training slopes; later levels build autonomy, weather judgement and cross-country skills. APPI also offers instructor and tandem pilot pathways for professionals.

Choosing a course
Paragliding progression depends on weather and individual pace. APPI 1 is for complete beginners; APPI 2 and APPI 3 assume prior cards and logged flights. Do not book a higher level hoping to compress the syllabus; schools will check your APPI record and may adjust the programme.
Compare school locations, languages spoken and what kit hire includes. UK hills and abroad alpine sites offer different learning environments. Leave a comment when you book with your current APPI level and whether you need equipment hire or accommodation advice.
Official standards
Pilot standards and school accreditation are published by APPI at appifly.org. Local airspace rules and site permissions still apply. Your APPI school confirms prerequisites and the exact programme when you book.
