A relaxed and practical way to get started with paddlesport, this 3-hour session covers the fundamentals of kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Led by qualified instructors, it's ideal for complete beginners looking to build confidence on the water while earning a Paddle UK Start Award.
Your session begins with meeting your instructor at the South Quay Car Park in Pembroke, where you'll be welcomed and guided through selecting any equipment you may need. A short safety briefing follows, ensuring you feel ready before heading down to the slipway and onto the water. The coach will cover how to use your paddle and get you comfortable with your kayak or paddleboard.
Once on the water, you’ll try out a range of beginner techniques, including forward paddling, stopping, and basic turns. You’ll have the opportunity to try both kayak and paddleboard during the session, allowing you to experience the differences and find what suits you best. The focus throughout is on fun and progression, with games and exercises that build your skill without pressure. At the end of the session, the instructor will collect your details to register your completion with Paddle UK, and your certificate will be emailed to you.
