This practical two-day Outdoor First Aid course is tailored for those working or adventuring in remote or outdoor environments where access to emergency services may be delayed. It covers essential First Aid skills through realistic, scenario-based training designed for outdoor professionals and expedition leaders.
Training takes place outdoors from the field at Glan Y Mor Farm and is entirely hands-on, with scenarios built around real-life situations outdoor professionals and expedition leaders might face. Across the two days, you’ll work individually and in groups through practical tasks and live simulations, learning to stay calm under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies such as fractures, anaphylaxis, hypothermia, and more.
Each day includes both practical and written assessments, carried out by the course instructor without the need for external assessors. Learners who meet the required standard will receive a Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid, valid for three years. The course follows a comprehensive syllabus, covering everything from head and spinal injuries to asthma, bites, and minor wounds. Expect a high level of participation, regular feedback, and opportunities to ask questions tailored to your outdoor context.
Glan Y Mor Farm is set on the edge of Pembroke, offering a peaceful, open space ideal for realistic outdoor First Aid training. The field provides a practical environment where conditions can closely reflect those encountered in real expeditions and remote activities.
Participants should park by the gate to the field, where you'll be met on arrival. There are no indoor facilities, so please come prepared for all weather conditions and bring a packed lunch.
You must be at least 16 years old to attend. This course is a recognised prerequisite for all British Canoeing Leadership awards and meets the First Aid requirements for Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver, and Gold expeditions.
No previous First Aid experience is required. The course is suitable for both complete beginners and those needing to renew or upgrade their existing certificate, particularly if you work or volunteer outdoors.
The centre has a strong track record of delivering courses tailored to the needs of outdoor professionals, guides, and instructors. With experienced trainers and a commitment to real-world scenarios, the focus is always on making First Aid skills practical, memorable, and relevant.
Training is always delivered in outdoor environments to ensure participants are well prepared for real conditions. The team believes in keeping things hands-on and supportive, helping learners build confidence through practice, feedback, and expert instruction.
