This four-day trek from Marrakech gives you time to acclimatise in Berber villages around Imlil before the summit push to Mount Toubkal. Daily walks through walnut groves and mountain paths build fitness gradually rather than rushing the climb. You'll reach the 4,167-metre summit with proper mountain pacing and local guide support throughout.
Early days walk through Imlil, Aremd and higher valleys with nights in village guesthouses and a refuge night, letting your legs and lungs adjust before the summit attempt. Your guide sets daily stages that match group pace and the weather window, with mule support on the paths and tea stops in family homes along terraced fields.
Summit day still starts before dawn from the Toubkal Refuge for the south cirque climb to 4,167 metres, followed by descent and transfer back to Marrakech. The extra village days add culture, valley views and a gentler altitude build-up, so you arrive at the refuge with steadier legs than on a compressed two-day ascent.
The trek stays in the Imlil and Toubkal massif south of Marrakech, among walnut groves, terraced fields and granite peaks above 4,000 metres. Berber hamlets such as Aremd sit on the approach paths, so you meet local life as well as alpine scenery on the same route.
Each valley has its own character, from irrigated terraces and walnut shade to higher scree slopes beneath the summit dome. You see Toubkal from multiple angles across the four days rather than rushing straight to the refuge on day one.
You need solid fitness for multi-hour walking days with a daypack and a long summit day at altitude. Previous hill walking experience helps, especially on rocky mule tracks with sustained ascent and descent.
Technical skills are not required in normal conditions. Share your trekking background when you enquire so we can confirm the pacing of village days and the summit attempt suit your group.
Extra village nights reduce the shock of sleeping at 3,200 metres before summit day, giving your body time to adjust in the valleys first. That slower build improves comfort and enjoyment on the upper mountain.
We handle Marrakech transfers, refuge arrangements and village guesthouses as one organised trek with the same mountain guide. You focus on the walking while we coordinate mules, meals and accommodation between stages.
You are met on arrival in Marrakech and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free in the city before the mountain start.
Use the evening to check kit, eat and rest. Tomorrow is the transfer to Imlil and the walk to the refuge.
After a transfer to Imlil you start walking through the Ait Mizane Valley. The path leads through Aremd and on to the Sidi Chamarouch shrine, then climbs toward the Toubkal Refuge at about 3,206 metres.
Walking time is typically 4 to 5 hours. Settle in, eat and rest for the early summit start.
You leave the refuge early and climb the south cirque toward Jebel Toubkal at 4,167 metres. From the top there are open views toward the Marrakesh Plain and, on clear days, the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara.
You descend to Imlil and transfer back to Marrakech for a city night after the mountain day.
After breakfast you transfer from your Marrakech hotel to the airport, timed around the flight details you share with the team.
If you are staying on in the city, the team can drop you at your next hotel instead.
Day one is an airport to hotel transfer in Marrakech. On the trek morning you are collected from that hotel or riad around 8.30am.
After the summit day you return to Marrakech. On the final morning you transfer to the airport when that is part of your booking.
Night one is a Marrakech hotel after your arrival transfer. Night two is at the Toubkal Refuge around 3,206 metres, with shared rooms and a communal dining space.
The refuge night is cold and basic. Bring a sleeping bag suited to the season. The city hotel is a simple base before the walk and after the descent.
You'll be collected from your hotel or riad in Marrakech on the morning of day one for the drive to Imlil.
After summit day you descend to Imlil and transfer back to Marrakech, usually arriving by early evening on the final day.
The four-day format adds acclimatisation walks and village nights before the refuge, so you arrive at 3,200 metres less rushed.
You still summit Toubkal, but with more time to enjoy Berber valleys and adjust to altitude along the way.
Nights include village guesthouses around Imlil and Aremd plus one night at the Toubkal Refuge before summit day.
Guesthouses are simple but warmer than the refuge. Bring a sleeping bag for the refuge night.
Meals during the trek days are included, prepared by mountain cooks or guesthouse hosts around the walking schedule.
Tell us about dietary needs when you enquire. Drinks are not included. Breakfast and dinner are usually included where the itinerary lists hotel or camp nights, with lunch often on the road at a café or picnic stop between driving legs.
Trekking boots, warm layers, waterproofs, a sleeping bag, daypack, head torch, sunglasses and sunscreen are essential.
Pack light for village nights but keep summit-day kit accessible in your daypack.
Expect three walking days plus a long summit day on rocky paths with sustained ascent and descent.
Tell us about recent multi-day hikes when you enquire. The pace is steady but the summit day is demanding.
Older children with proven hiking experience may join. Share ages and recent walks when you enquire.
We advise honestly, as summit day is long and cold at altitude. Share children's ages and how they handle long travel days when you enquire, and we advise honestly on pacing, seat comfort and whether a longer itinerary would suit your family better.
Your guide monitors conditions and may delay summit day or turn back on the upper mountain if safety requires it.
Flexibility is built into the four-day schedule so a weather day can shift without losing the whole trek.
Yes, paths through Aremd and neighbouring valleys pass terraced fields and stone houses where mule traffic is still daily life.
Your guide can explain local customs and tea hospitality when families invite trekkers to pause.
Mules often carry group kit to the refuge on summit day so you walk with a lighter daypack.
Tell us when you enquire if you want mule support for personal bags on earlier days as well. Your driver-guide builds these stops into the day around weather, light and group pace, and can extend or shorten time on site when you ask on the road.
