Itinerary
Day 1 – Imlil to Azzaden Valley
Your adventure begins in Imlil, with a warm introduction to the trail system as you descend through Imlil valley towards Imi’oughelad. The route then winds steadily uphill via a zigzagging dirt road, offering sweeping views over Ait Mizan and its neighbouring valleys. Reaching the Tacht Pass, there’s time for a well-earned rest, snacks and panoramic photo opportunities. The ride continues along the scenic Azzaden Valley past small Berber settlements, eventually reaching the village of Id Aissa. Tonight’s accommodation is in a welcoming guesthouse at 1600m, nestled high above the valley floor. Expect 4–5 hours in the saddle today.
Day 2 – Ouirgane to Ait Zitoune via Amizmiz
Today’s route connects several traditional villages through a mix of short climbs and exhilarating fast sections. After warming up with a gentle ride, you'll cross a large dam that opens into a dramatic stretch of singletrack hugging the edge of a deep gorge. A riverside lunch break with fresh mint tea provides a moment to recharge before continuing. The afternoon ride winds through remote valleys toward the village of Ait Zitoune, where a traditional hammam is waiting to help you unwind. Another solid 4–5 hours of biking across varied terrain is expected.
Day 3 – Final Ride to Amizmiz and Transfer to Marrakech
The final day brings more technical singletrack and challenging climbs, rewarding you with spectacular views and fast descents. A morning stop at a local Berber house adds a cultural touch before you push on to the lunch stop. After your final ride through the trails of Amizmiz, transport will be waiting to take you back to Marrakech for around 17:00. Although the tour wraps up today, this final stretch packs in some of the trip’s most exciting terrain.
Location
The ride takes place in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, a rugged and remote region just south of Marrakech. The trails weave through an ever-changing backdrop of sharp ridgelines, lush valleys, and ancient farmland. This area has been shaped by generations of Berber culture and traditional farming, and biking through it provides a unique chance to experience Morocco far from the bustle of its cities.
From rocky passes to fast-flowing singletrack, the terrain is both varied and rewarding. The tour offers an incredible contrast between dry mountain ridges and irrigated green valleys dotted with stone-built homes. As you cycle through this region, you’ll see the snow-capped peaks looming above and gain insight into the customs and daily life of Morocco’s indigenous communities.
Accommodation
Accommodation throughout the tour is in locally-run Berber guesthouses, known as gîtes. These mountain lodges offer an authentic experience, complete with hearty home-cooked meals, warm hospitality, and basic but comfortable facilities. Bedrooms are usually shared, and hot showers are available most nights. After long days on the bike, these cosy stops provide a welcome base to relax and recover.
Upgraded options are available on request. If you’re after a more private room or added amenities, just let the team know in advance and they’ll tailor the accommodation to suit your preferences. Whether you’re keeping it simple or choosing a bit of added comfort, each stay brings you closer to the people and landscapes that make the High Atlas so special.
Prerequisites
Participants should have some previous experience of off-road cycling and feel comfortable riding on mixed terrain. This trip is best suited to riders with an intermediate level of fitness and a good sense of balance and control on loose surfaces.
You don’t need to be an expert, but expect daily rides of 4–5 hours with a mix of climbs, descents, and technical sections. If you're able to cycle for several hours a day with short breaks, you'll enjoy the trip fully.
