Fantastic time out on the river!
A great day on the river with a very knowledgeable guide (Sam). Best part for me was the excursion up the river Boyd

We had such a great time kayaking with Tristan! He was very welcoming and informative, sharing lots of interesting details about the wildlife on the lake and the history of the river, which made the experience even more special. The activity itself was the perfect beginner level, easy to pick…

Step into the arena and test your swordsmanship in a fast-paced combat session designed for adults ready to face the ultimate challenge. With expert guidance, you’ll learn the foundations of safe sword fighting before engaging in a full LARP-style battle using a range of foam weapons. It’s an energetic and fun experience that’s ideal for groups, friends, or anyone keen to try something different.
Begin with a full safety briefing and be fitted with protective gear, including body armour, gloves, and a face mask. Once equipped, you’ll move through general sword training to develop your movement, balance, and attack techniques. Experienced instructors will demonstrate safe combat practices and guide you through drills to build confidence before the battles begin.
Once everyone’s ready, the group splits into teams for a series of live-action sword fights. Expect a mix of single and double sword techniques, as well as sword and shield or axe combinations. Combat scenarios vary with group size and skill, ending with a final challenge to determine who reigns supreme. Laughter, strategy, and plenty of friendly competition make it a memorable and energetic session for all.
Sessions take place in Bristol, set within a purpose-built outdoor arena designed for LARP-style sword combat. The area provides ample space for movement and safe engagement while keeping everyone within a controlled environment. Easy access from central Bristol makes it suitable for local visitors and those travelling in for a weekend activity.
Surrounding facilities include parking, nearby food options, and rest areas where groups can relax before or after the session. Many participants choose to pair the activity with a day out in the city, adding a social element to the experience.
Participants must be 18 or older and in good general health, as the activity involves light to moderate physical movement. No previous experience is required, but comfortable clothing and trainers are recommended. Extra layers are advisable as some parts of the armour leave joints exposed to allow for movement.
Full-contact actions such as punching, kicking, or grappling are not permitted. All equipment is inspected and cleaned before each use, and the rules are based on adapted LARP guidelines to ensure a fun and safe environment for everyone.
Instructors are passionate about bringing fantasy combat to life in a way that’s safe, engaging, and accessible to all. Each session balances authentic sword techniques with plenty of humour and encouragement, ensuring everyone feels part of the action from start to finish.
The centre specialises in LARP-based activities that combine physical gameplay with teamwork and strategy. Every participant leaves with new skills, great memories, and a story to tell—whether they emerged victorious or valiantly fell in battle.

All weapons are foam-based and designed for LARP combat, making them safe for controlled, full-speed use. You’ll handle a mix of single and double swords, sword and shield, and sword and axe combinations throughout the session.
Weapons are regularly inspected for safety and cleaned before each group arrives. The design allows for realistic movement without the risk of injury, ensuring everyone can enjoy the activity confidently.
The session involves moderate movement, including dodging, striking, and brief bursts of energy during combat. Most participants find it manageable, even with no prior experience in martial arts or sword fighting.
Short breaks are built in between rounds, allowing time to rest and recover. The focus is on fun and teamwork rather than endurance, so all fitness levels can take part comfortably.
All protective gear and weapons are provided on-site, so there’s no need to bring your own. You’ll receive a full set of body armour, gloves, and a mask before training begins.
It’s recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes for ease of movement. Layers are a good idea as some areas of the armour are exposed to allow for flexibility.
Every session begins with a comprehensive briefing covering the rules, safe striking zones, and conduct during battles. Instructors supervise throughout to ensure all participants follow safety protocols.
Full-contact actions such as punching, kicking, or grappling are not allowed. These measures keep the experience safe, enjoyable, and suitable for mixed-ability groups.
Absolutely. Every session starts with weapon-handling basics and step-by-step coaching, ensuring even complete beginners feel comfortable before combat starts.
Instructors focus on technique and safety rather than competition, allowing participants to learn at their own pace while still feeling part of the action.
LARP combat uses foam weapons and simplified rules to keep the focus on fun, movement, and safety. It’s more about strategy and teamwork than replicating historical techniques.
Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) involves heavier weapons and more rigid forms. The LARP format offers a faster-paced and inclusive experience suitable for everyone aged 18 and above.
