The RYA Stage 1 & 2 course is specifically designed to give young sailors a solid introduction to the fundamentals of sailing. Under the guidance of RYA-qualified instructors, children will spend five days learning key sailing skills in a fun and safe environment. The course is very hands-on, ensuring that kids have the opportunity to steer the boat, handle the sails, and gain confidence on the water.

Yes, safety is our top priority. All instructors are RYA-qualified and DBS-checked. The boats are fully equipped with safety gear, and children will be provided with life jackets and wetsuits. The course takes place under close supervision in the safe environment of Brighton Marina, with controlled access to open waters.
Children will be sailing on Sailing Keel Boats, which are larger and more stable than dinghies, making them perfect for learning. We use boats like the Beneteau 36.7, Beneteau First 35, and Delphia 24 keelboats, all of which offer excellent performance and safety features.

Children are encouraged to bring their own clothing suitable for the weather, including a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen on sunny days.
Yes, please pack a snack and a drink for your child each day. As the sessions run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, children may want a small break to recharge between activities.
We operate the course in most weather conditions; however, if the weather becomes unsuitable for safe sailing (such as extreme winds or storms), we may reschedule the practical sailing sessions. We will always prioritise safety and keep parents informed about any changes.
Yes! Upon successful completion, children will be awarded the RYA Stage 1 & 2 Certificate, which recognises their achievements and provides a foundation for further sailing qualifications.
If your child enjoys sailing and wishes to continue, we offer further sailing opportunities, including Sailing Clinics on weekends and racing experiences. They can also progress to higher RYA stages and eventually take part in RYA Level 3 or advanced courses. Our sailing community is welcoming, and there’s plenty of scope to develop sailing skills further.
Children should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. Bring a warm jacket or fleece for cooler days and swimwear or clothing suitable to wear under the wetsuit. Non-slip shoes or sailing shoes are recommended. Don’t forget a towel and spare clothes for after the session.
No prior preparation is needed. The course is designed for beginners, and all learning takes place on the water with direct instruction from experienced RYA trainers.
