Discover the High Atlas on a rewarding day hike from Marrakech to Talamrout Summit. Walk through traditional Berber villages, cross the scenic Tizi n'Tamatert Pass, and enjoy panoramic views over the Imlil and Imnane valleys with a local mountain guide.
Your day begins with morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. The drive takes you to Imlil at about 1,740 m, where you meet your mountain guide and begin walking. The trail leads through Ait Souka and Tamatert, climbing steadily toward Tizi n'Tamatert Pass with growing views over the valleys below.
From the pass, the route continues to Talamrout Summit at around 2,600 m for wide panoramas of the High Atlas. Your guide sets a steady pace with breaks for water and photos. After the summit, you descend back to Imlil for a traditional Moroccan lunch with mint tea before the return drive to Marrakech.
Expect a long walking day on rocky mountain trails with significant ascent and descent. Walking poles are helpful if you use them regularly. The group stays together under guide supervision throughout.
The hike runs in the Imlil and Imnane valleys, south of Marrakech in the heart of the High Atlas. Terraced fields, walnut groves and Amazigh villages line the lower trails before the path opens onto the pass and higher slopes.
Talamrout Summit offers a memorable vantage over Jbel Toubkal country and the rugged ridges that define this classic Moroccan mountain landscape.
You should be comfortable walking for six to seven hours on mountain paths with a daypack, including sustained uphill and downhill sections. Prior hill-walking experience is helpful, though no technical climbing skills are required.
A reasonable level of fitness matters more than speed. Tell the team about injuries, heart or respiratory conditions, or concerns about altitude before you travel so the guide can plan a safe pace.
Routes are led by local mountain guides who know these trails year round and understand how heat, cold mornings and rocky ground affect different walkers. Briefings are practical, groups stay small, and the focus stays on a well-paced day rather than rushing the summit.
From Marrakech pickup to the final drop-off, transport, guiding and lunch are organised as one package so you can travel light and enjoy the trail.
You will be collected from your hotel or riad in Marrakech on the morning of the activity. Please share your accommodation details when you book so the driver can find you easily.
