We had an amazing time and learned a lot with Ivy

This course is designed for those looking to take the next step in their sailing journey. It combines the essential theory of skippering with practical experience, preparing you to skipper your own or chartered boat. Over the course of 9 days, you'll gain the confidence and skills needed to handle a yacht, with 4 days of theory and 5 days of practical experience.
The course begins with two days of theory in the classroom, where you’ll learn key navigation and skippering concepts. This will cover topics such as tidal patterns, weather forecasting, and planning safe routes. The theoretical knowledge gained during these days will be put into practice over the following five days of sailing on a Beneteau Oceanis 41 Express yacht.
During the practical phase, you'll have the opportunity to put your theory into action in real-world conditions, learning how to handle the boat, steer, trim sails, and deal with various manoeuvres. You'll visit locations along the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada, including Sitges, Blanes, and Tossa De Mar, all while under the supervision of a qualified instructor. Accommodation is provided on board, allowing you to experience life on the water in a comfortable setting. You’ll finish the course with a final weekend of theory and exams, culminating in your internationally recognised Day Skipper qualification.
The course takes place in and around Barcelona, a city with ideal sailing conditions. The area offers consistent winds and plenty of sunshine, making it perfect for both theory and practical lessons.
You’ll get to sail along the gorgeous Costa Brava and Costa Dorada coastlines, visiting charming ports and spending nights anchored off beautiful spots like Tossa De Mar.
During the 5-day practical part of the course, you will stay aboard the yacht. Accommodation includes breakfast and lunch on board, ensuring you’re well-fueled for a day on the water.
Staying on the yacht gives you a real sense of life at sea while being comfortably accommodated in a stable and spacious boat.
To enrol in this course, participants must have some basic sailing skills, ideally gained through the Competent Crew course or equivalent experience.
You should be familiar with basic sailing terminology, have a general understanding of how to steer, trim sails, and be comfortable with basic manoeuvres like tacking and gybing.
Our team is professional, friendly, and committed to making your sailing experience memorable. With experienced, qualified instructors and skippers, you’ll be guided every step of the way, ensuring both fun and safety on the water.
The location, with its sunny weather and reliable winds, is ideal for both beginners and those looking to develop their skills further. The coastal areas offer fantastic sailing opportunities, and with limited group sizes, you’re guaranteed plenty of hands-on experience.
We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards across all of our boats. The Beneteau Oceanis 41 Express yachts are chosen for their performance, comfort, and stability, making them perfect for both training and leisure cruising. Whether you're looking to gain an international qualification or simply improve your sailing skills, this course will set you on the right course for your next adventure on the water.
The course price includes 4 days of theory lessons, 5 days of practical sailing, accommodation onboard the yacht during the practical phase, breakfast and lunch during practical days, course materials, and the final exams.
The cost also covers the use of our high-quality Beneteau Oceanis 41 Express yacht and the expertise of qualified, English-speaking instructors.
Additional costs not included in the course price are dinners (which are typically taken ashore), personal expenses, travel to and from the course location in Barcelona, and any optional additional qualifications or certification fees.
Yes, this course is designed for those with some basic sailing skills. If you have completed the Competent Crew course or have equivalent experience (such as knowledge of steering, trimming sails, and basic manoeuvres like tacking and gybing), you can join the course.
If you're unsure about your experience level, feel free to get in touch with us or take a look at our beginner courses at the bottom of this page.
We limit the course to a maximum of 5 participants. This ensures you have plenty of time on the helm and receive personalised attention from the instructor, maximising the value of your practical experience.
During the 5-day practical phase, you'll stay onboard the Beneteau Oceanis 41 Express yacht. The yacht is spacious and comfortable, providing a stable base while sailing along the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided onboard, and you’ll have a real experience of life on the water.
The 4 days of theory are conducted in a classroom setting and will cover topics such as navigation, weather forecasting, tidal patterns, and route planning.
This part of the course will give you the knowledge you need to skipper a boat confidently and safely. It will be followed by the 5-day practical training on the water.
