Mastering underwater navigation makes you a more confident and efficient diver. This course teaches precise compass work, natural navigation cues, distance estimation, and multi-leg patterns—skills that make every dive more controlled and enjoyable.
Your instructor begins with an on-land briefing covering compass setup, headings, reciprocal bearings, and turn sequences. You’ll then apply these skills underwater, starting with simple out-and-back routes before progressing to square, triangle, and modified patterns.
Natural navigation techniques—such as recognising sand ripples, slope contours, light angle, and reef structure—are introduced early to help you combine compass and visual cues. By the end of the course, you will be able to navigate confidently without relying on a guide, return precisely to ascent points, and plan your own routes.
Training takes place at Dubai’s sheltered coastal sites, where visibility and consistent seabed features make navigation practice effective. The combination of defined reef edges, sandy areas, and mooring points ensures repeatable skill development and clear progression.
You must hold a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver certification or equivalent entry-level qualification.
Minimum age: 10 years.
Instructors here place strong emphasis on accuracy, repeatability, and real-world navigation scenarios. You’ll refine compass skills used across advanced training, including search-patterns and return-to-boat drills, making future specialties—such as Search & Recovery or Deep—far smoother.
