### Highlights
Mastering underwater navigation makes you a more confident and efficient diver. This course teaches precise compass work, natural navigation cues, distance estimation, and multi-leg patterns—skills that make every dive more controlled and enjoyable. Key Details 🧭 Course duration: 2–3 days Session duration: 3 hours Daily schedule: 09:00, 12:00, 15:00 Number of dives: 3 Minimum age: 10 years Prerequisites: PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver Depth limit: Up to your certification level Key Skills 🔍 Accurate compass use Natural navigation methods Kick-cycle and time-based distance estimation Executing multi-turn patterns Returning to a fixed point without surfacing What to Expect 🌊 Your instructor begins with an on-land briefing covering compass setup, headings, reciprocal bearings, and turn sequences. You’ll then apply these skills underwater, starting with simple out-and-back routes before progressing to square, triangle, and modified patterns. Natural navigation techniques—such as recognising sand ripples, slope contours, light angle, and reef structure—are introduced early to help you combine compass and visual cues. By the end of the course, you will be able to navigate confidently without relying on a guide, return precisely to ascent points, and plan your own routes. Location 📍 Training takes place at Dubai’s sheltered coastal sites, where visibility and consistent seabed features make navigation practice effective. The combination of defined reef edges, sandy areas, and mooring points ensures repeatable skill development and clear progression. Prerequisites ✔️ You must hold a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver certification or equivalent entry-level qualification. Minimum age: 10 years. Why Choose This Centre 💬 Instructors here place strong emphasis on accuracy, repeatability, and real-world navigation scenarios. You’ll refine compass skills used across advanced training, including search-patterns and return-to-boat drills, making future specialties—such as Search & Recovery or Deep—far smoother.

## FAQs

### Do I need to bring my own equipment?

All required diving equipment is provided for courses. You’re welcome to bring personal kit if you prefer; any items you don’t have will be issued to you on arrival.

### What should I bring on the day?

Comfortable clothing, swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and footwear that can get wet are recommended. Bringing an extra set of dry clothes makes the return journey more comfortable.

### Do you accept male and female students together?

Yes, mixed groups are standard. A female-only group can sometimes be arranged depending on instructor availability.

### Do I need to know how to swim?

Basic swimming skills are required for all diving activities, including introductory experiences. You should be able to stay afloat comfortably and feel confident in the water.

### What happens if the weather is unsuitable?

Safety always comes first. If sea conditions are not suitable for diving, the session will be rescheduled or refunded. Weather-related cancellations are made by the instructor or operations team.

### Can non-divers join the trip?

Non-divers can usually join boat trips for an additional fee and are welcome to snorkel, depending on the location.

### What if I want photographs or videos?

Underwater photos and videos can usually be arranged for an additional fee, which covers both still images and video clips.

### How accurate do I need to be with compass patterns?

You’ll learn to maintain headings within a few degrees and complete square or triangular routes that return within a metre or two of your start point—useful for real-world diving.

### Will I learn natural navigation techniques as well as compass work?

Yes. You’ll use seabed contours, rock features, light direction, currents, and landmarks to build layered navigation strategies.

### Is this course suitable for low-visibility diving?

The skills transfer extremely well to low-vis environments. Techniques such as controlled pace, touch-reference, and fixed-interval turns all help manage reduced visibility.

### Will this help me re-find the boat without surfacing?

Definitely. A core part of the course involves plotting headings back to the exit or boat, allowing you to return directly without breaking your profile.

### Does this course support other PADI specialties?

Underwater navigation is a foundation skill for Search & Recovery, Night Diver, Deep Diver, and Rescue Diver—making advanced training easier and more predictable.
