Diving from a boat opens access to deeper, more remote, and more varied sites. This course introduces the procedures, terminology, and safety considerations that make boat diving efficient and enjoyable. Across two open-water dives, you’ll learn how to prepare for boat operations, organise your equipment, and use lines and SMBs correctly.
Your instructor begins with a detailed briefing on boat layout, common terminology, safety kit, and procedures for entry and exit. You’ll cover how to prepare your equipment for a confined deck space, how to stow cylinders securely, and how to move safely on a moving platform.
On the first dive, you will practise using mooring lines, timed entries, and standard boat etiquette—including positioning during gear-up and maintaining awareness of other divers. The second dive focuses on SMB deployment, navigation away from the hull, and procedures for ascend/descend lines.
By the end of the course, you’ll be confident boarding, gearing up, and diving from a range of boat styles—skills that allow you to access a wider range of sites worldwide.
Dubai’s dive boats offer stable platforms with easy access points and shaded deck areas. Sites around the Arabian Gulf provide predictable sea states, ideal for practising SMB deployment and line-based descents. Clear briefings, controlled conditions, and manageable currents support efficient skill progression.
Participants must hold a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver certification or equivalent entry-level qualification.
Minimum age is 10 years, and divers should feel comfortable entering and exiting from a boat platform or ladder.
