Get up close to the raw and beautiful coastline of North Devon with a guided coasteering session at Baggy Point. This thrilling experience combines sea swimming, climbing, and cliff jumping in a safe, instructor-led environment that’s perfect for adventurous groups.
You’ll start the session at Baggy Lodge, where you’ll be welcomed by your guide and fitted with all the gear you’ll need – including a wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet, gloves, and hood if necessary. After a short safety briefing, your guide will explain the planned route, the types of terrain you’ll cover, and how to stay safe while moving as a group in the water and over rocks. Once everyone is ready, you'll make your way to the nearby entry point on foot and begin the coastal adventure.
The session will include a combination of sea swims, low-level climbing, and carefully assessed cliff jumps into deep water. You’ll work your way along the base of the cliffs, moving through tidal zones that are usually inaccessible from land. Expect to traverse slippery ledges, duck through narrow gullies, and use teamwork to navigate sections of the route. Your guide will offer alternative options where needed, so jumps are never compulsory. There’s always a strong focus on safety, but also plenty of freedom to challenge yourself as much or as little as you like.
Depending on the group’s pace and the tide, you may get to explore hidden caves, natural plunge pools, or sections of wave-washed rock that feel like a secret passage through the coastline. Throughout the experience, your guide will share tips on movement, spotting safe jumps, and understanding the sea conditions. After around three hours of activity, you’ll walk back to the lodge to change, tired but buzzing from an unforgettable session in the water.
This coasteering session takes place along the coastline of Baggy Point, a prominent headland just beyond Croyde village in North Devon. The area is managed by the National Trust and offers some of the best access to wild coastal terrain in the region. Known for its steep sea cliffs, sea caves, and narrow gullies, Baggy Point is ideal for coasteering thanks to its varied topography and sheltered inlets.
The meeting point at Baggy Lodge is within walking distance of the launch site, so you’ll get into the action quickly without lengthy travel. The routes used are carefully selected on the day to match sea conditions and group ability, ensuring a safe but exciting experience in one of the UK’s most scenic coastal adventure spots.
This activity is open to anyone aged 10 and up who can confidently swim 50 metres without assistance. You don’t need previous coasteering experience, but you should be comfortable in the water and reasonably fit.
All jumps are optional and your guide will always provide alternative routes.
