Coasteering is working along a rocky coastline by scrambling, swimming and jumping into the sea. Gloriously good fun.

Overview

Coasteering is the art of travelling along the bit of coast where the land meets the waves, using whatever it takes: scrambling over rocks, swimming through gullies, edging along ledges, and leaping off them into deep water. Part adventure, part grown-up playground.

No experience is needed, just reasonable swimming and a taste for cold water and adrenaline. Guides pick the route and the jumps to suit the group, so you can launch off a ledge or take a calmer way round, no pressure either way.

The guides on adventuro run coasteering sessions with wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets provided. The jumps are optional. You will probably do them anyway.

Never. Every jump is optional, with a lower route round, so you choose how brave you feel on the day.

Swimwear under a wetsuit, which is provided along with a helmet and buoyancy aid. Old trainers you do not mind soaking are ideal.

A reasonable level of fitness for the swimming and scrambling. Guides set a sensible pace.

The wetsuit does most of the work, and you stay warm by moving. The first splash is bracing, then you forget about it.
