This coaching assessment is a focused 2-hour session designed to give clear feedback on how you climb and what can be improved. It works for all abilities, whether you are new to climbing or already have experience and want structured guidance to progress further. The session is shaped around your goals and can be delivered indoors or outdoors depending on what suits you best.
The session begins with a short conversation about your experience, goals and anything specific you want to work on. This helps shape the focus so the coaching is relevant from the start. Once this is covered, you’ll move into climbing while being observed to understand how you approach movement, rests and decision making across different terrain.
As you climb, you’ll receive clear, direct feedback based on what is seen in real time. This may include adjustments to foot placement, body position, pacing, or how you read sequences. You’ll be encouraged to apply changes straight away so you can feel the difference and understand what works best for you.
Towards the end of the session, key themes are pulled together so you leave with a clear understanding of your strengths and areas to improve. You’ll also receive practical points to continue working on after the session.
Sessions can take place indoors or outdoors depending on your preference and goals. Indoor coaching is usually held at climbing walls across the West Midlands, selected based on the facilities needed for your session.
Outdoor sessions are typically based in the Peak District or at suitable outdoor climbing areas in the West Midlands, with common Peak District venues including The Roaches and Stanage Edge. Locations are chosen based on conditions and what best suits the focus of your coaching. If you are further away, a travel charge may apply depending on distance.
There is no minimum climbing ability required for this session, and it is open to complete beginners through to experienced climbers. Coaching is adapted throughout so you are always working at a level appropriate for you.
For anyone under 18, an adult must be present for the duration of the session. This ensures appropriate supervision and support throughout the coaching.
Sessions are delivered by a qualified climbing coach with over 10 years of experience working with a wide range of abilities. The focus is on clear, practical feedback that helps climbers make real progress rather than just general advice.
As a small family-run setup, everything is kept personal and flexible. Each session is shaped around the individual, with coaching tailored to your goals so you get focused support where it matters most.
Outdoor sessions will always go ahead where conditions are safe and suitable, as weather can often change quickly. A decision will be made as close to the session as possible to give the best chance of running the day as planned.
If conditions are not suitable and the session needs to be cancelled, you will be offered an alternative date at no extra cost. The aim is to make sure you still get the full experience without losing your booking.
All coaching sessions and courses are open to climbers of every ability, from complete beginners to those with more experience. Each session is adapted to suit your level, so you can progress at a pace that feels right for you.
If you are unsure whether a session is suitable, you can always ask in advance. Guidance can be given to help you choose the right option based on your current experience and goals.
All essential equipment can be provided, so you don’t need to worry about bringing your own gear if you’re new or don’t have access to it. Everything supplied will be suitable for the session and properly maintained.
If you do have your own equipment, you are welcome to use it. This can be helpful if you are already familiar with your gear and want to continue using it during your session.
Outdoor sessions are typically run in the Peak District, offering a range of locations suited to different abilities and types of climbing. Specific venues are chosen based on the goals of the session and current conditions.
Indoor sessions take place at climbing and bouldering walls across the West Midlands, selected depending on the facilities needed. If you have a preferred location in mind, this can often be arranged by request.
There is no strict minimum age for sessions, making them accessible to a wide range of participants. Each booking is considered on an individual basis to ensure the experience is suitable and enjoyable.
For anyone under the age of 18, an adult must be present throughout the session. This helps provide support, supervision, and a safe environment for younger climbers.
The location is chosen based on your goals, experience and what will give the most useful coaching outcome. Some skills are better assessed indoors on structured routes, while others benefit from outdoor movement on real rock.
Weather and conditions are also considered for outdoor sessions. If conditions are not suitable, an indoor alternative will usually be arranged so the session can still go ahead.
The focus is on how you move, how you make decisions on the wall, and how efficiently you use your body. This includes foot placement, body positioning, pacing and how you read sequences.
Observations are made throughout the climbing so feedback is based on real performance rather than theory. This allows adjustments to be made in real time so you can see immediate improvements.
Yes, if you have a preferred outdoor climbing area this can often be accommodated. Common venues include The Roaches and Stanage Edge, but other locations may also be suitable depending on the session.
If the chosen location is further away, a travel charge may apply. This will always be confirmed in advance so you know what to expect.
