Exploring the iconic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is an unforgettable experience, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than by canoe. Guided by a friendly, qualified instructor, you’ll glide along the peaceful Llangollen Canal, learning canoeing basics and taking in the amazing scale of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Whether you’re new to paddling or simply after a unique adventure, this session promises something special.
You’ll meet your instructor at the Froncysyllte Basin, where the session starts with a quick safety briefing and fitting of all necessary equipment. Once you’re ready, it’s time to climb into your canoe and get started. Your instructor will teach you how to paddle, steer, and build your confidence, so even if it’s your first time, you’ll feel right at home.
When you’re comfortable, you’ll paddle towards the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, one of the most remarkable engineering achievements in Britain. Spanning 306.9m and standing 38.4m above the River Dee, this crossing is as mesmerising as it is peaceful. As you gently make your way across, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the views and soak up the atmosphere.
The session wraps up back at the start point, leaving you with fantastic memories and maybe even a new skill to share with friends.
This activity takes place on the Llangollen Canal, known for its calm and beginner-friendly waters.
You’ll meet at the Froncysyllte Basin, near the lift bridge. Limited canalside parking is available, but if full, there is additional parking at Froncysyllte Community Centre (1 Gate Rd, Froncysyllte, Llangollen, LL20 7RH).
No previous canoeing experience is required, and you don’t need to be able to swim. Buoyancy aids are provided to ensure your safety.
If you’d like to bring your own equipment, the instructor will inspect it before use to confirm it’s suitable.
This session is run by a team of experienced, approachable instructors who know how to make your adventure fun and safe. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone looking to try a new way of exploring the outdoors, they’ll ensure the experience is tailored to you.
Since starting in 2015, the team has grown to become one of North Wales’ most trusted providers of outdoor activities. Their knowledge of the local area and passion for adventure guarantees you’ll get more than just a session—it’s an experience you’ll never forget. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel confident you’re in good hands.
No experience is required. The session is designed for beginners, and your instructor will provide all the necessary instruction to ensure you’re comfortable in the canoe.
You'll be taught the basics of paddling, turning, and getting familiar with how the canoe moves on the water.
All of our instructors are highly experienced and have been trained and assessed to national governing body standards.
They will always have your enjoyment and safety as their top priority.
This is suitable for anyone aged 8 or over. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
We can organise sessions for groups of children but it helps to know in advance so we can make special provisions.
It is not the aim of the session to capsize, particularly on the canal where the water is so calm but it may happen – you will be given instructions on what to do if this does happen and your instructor will rescue your boat and help you back in.
We sell waterproof phone cases which are suitable to keep your phone safe and dry.
Your instructor may take some photos if they have the opportunity.
We may be able to add a discount on this session for larger groups.
Please contact the adventuro team via the online chat, they'll be happy to look into this for you!
No need to worry! The session is designed for everyone, even those who don’t swim. Buoyancy aids are provided for your safety, and the water is only about 3 feet deep.
In the unlikely event that you fall in, your instructor will assist you, and the shallow water makes it easy to get back into your canoe.
