Bodyboating offers an exciting way to experience the River Dee’s rapids in North Wales. Combining elements of kayaking and surfing, this unique activity uses a specialist full-length bodyboard to navigate the water, providing an exciting and safe adventure for all skill levels. Perfect for families, friends, or individuals looking for something new, this session promises plenty of fun.
Upon arrival at our Llangollen white water centre, you’ll be welcomed by our friendly river guides who will help you get signed in and equipped with all the necessary gear. The session starts in a calm pool, where you’ll be introduced to the basics of bodyboating, including manoeuvring techniques and safety tips, giving you confidence before tackling the rapids.
Once ready, you’ll move onto the grade 2+ rapids of the River Dee, navigating exciting features such as Tombstones, Ski Slope, and Factory Falls. You’ll have the opportunity to run the drops, surf the waves, and even re-paddle sections for extra fun. Whether you’re a first-timer or have previous experience in water sports, this session guarantees a unique and enjoyable way to explore the river.
The session takes place on our private 300-metre stretch of the River Dee in North Wales. This exclusive area includes three key rapids—Tombstones, Ski Slope/Middle Wave, and Factory Falls—perfectly suited to this activity.
In the event of high river levels, the session may be moved to a nearby location, and any changes will be clearly communicated by your instructor.
No prior experience is necessary, and participants do not need to be strong swimmers as all safety gear, including a personal flotation device (PFD), is provided.
A moderate level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy the session. Children from 8 years old are welcome to join if accompanied by an adult. If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Yes, bodyboating is beginner-friendly.
The session starts with a short safety briefing and an introduction to basic techniques in a calm area of the river. You’ll practise essential manoeuvres before moving on to the rapids, ensuring you feel confident and ready.
No, strong swimming skills are not required. All participants are provided with personal flotation devices (PFDs), which ensure buoyancy throughout the session.
Our experienced guides are always on hand to assist and monitor safety.
You should bring swimwear to wear under the provided wetsuit, along with a towel and secure footwear such as trainers or water shoes.
Crocs and loose-fitting footwear are not suitable. During cooler months, thermal base layers are recommended for additional warmth.
This session is suitable for participants aged 8 and older.
Children must be accompanied by an adult to ensure they have the support they need both on and off the water.
Yes, you will get wet! However, we provide thick wetsuits, neoprene gloves, and socks to help keep you warm.
The session is active, so you’ll warm up quickly once you get moving.
