During the Annapurna Circuit Trekking, you encircle the majestic Annapurna massif. Also known as the Round Annapurna Trek, it was nominated as one of the best trekking trails in the world earlier. The trekking provides unmatchable experiences of walking through a river valley and to the arid zone of high Himalayan landscape, including the adventure experience of crossing over the high Himalayan pass.
Before, this trek started from Besishahar but now starts from Jagat because of road building, the trail goes along the Marshyangdi river valley starting at a lower altitude and advancing to a higher elevation.
The adventurous trek bestows the spectacular beauty of Himalayan peaks from Dhaulagiri massif, the Annapurna massif, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu range in which three peaks above eight thousand meters are located. Not only the scenic beauty, the trek also confers the challenging task of walking through a high Himalayan alpine arid zone with less oxygen and crossing over the high Himalayan pass called Thorong-La (5,416 m/ 17,769 ft) from one valley to another.
Also known as the Thorong La Pass Trek, undoubtedly gives you a chance to experience the multi-cultural life of Nepal with various ethnic flavors. The majority of people, places, and shrines in the higher Himalayan region belong to the Buddhist philosophy, and lower settlements of the mid-hill region and the river banks are filled with Hindu philosophy. Once nominated the best trekking trail of the world, Annapurna Circuit trekking is a wonderful amalgam of adventure, culture and nature.

Day 02: Kathmandu – Dharapani (1,960 m / 6,430 ft) 10 hrs drive
Begin your adventure in the Annapurna region
with a long yet scenic and fascinating drive to Jagat – a small town located in
the Marshyangdi River gorge. The drive follows winding roads through the
mid-hills of Nepal with beautiful landscapes. The journey is quite long, and
the section after Besisahar is a rough, unpaved road.Driving
along the Marshyangdi River is especially beautiful, with numerous waterfalls
cascading on the right side of the river. You’ll reach Tal – meaning
"lake," though no actual lake exists, only a wide riverbed and a few
houses – and then continue to Dharapani. It’s a comparatively large village
where the Manaslu trekking route joins the Annapurna Circuit.Overnight at a
lodge in Dharapani.
Day 03: Trek Dharapani – Chame (2,710 m / 8,891 ft) 6.5 hrs walk
Today’s trek is rewarding with beautiful
views of Himalayan peaks including Lamjung Himal (6,932 m / 22,742 ft),
Annapurna II (7,895 m / 25,902 ft), Annapurna IV (7,536 m / 24,724 ft), and
Peak 29 – recently renamed Dr. Harka Gurung Peak (7,871 m / 25,823 ft) in honor
of the noted geographer, author, and conservationist.
The trail is challenging, with sections of steep ridges and landslide
crossings. Overnight stay in Chame – the district headquarters and main town of
Manang District.
Day 04: Trek Chame – Pisang (3,300 m / 10,826 ft) 5.5 hrs walk
After breakfast at your lodge, begin another stunning day on the trail. You’ll walk through beautiful forested sections as you gradually ascend toward the alpine zone. The trek to Pisang involves some uphill sections but rewards you with amazing scenery. There are two Pisang villages – Upper and Lower. You’ll arrive in Lower Pisang and stay overnight at a lodge.
Day 05: Trek Pisang – Manang (3,500 m / 11,482 ft) 5 hrs walk
Today is one of the most beautiful days of the trek. There are two routes to Manang: one following the riverbed and another higher route along the ridge. We take the upper route for the most magnificent mountain views, including Annapurna II, III, IV, Pisang Peak (6,092 m / 19,986 ft), and others. You’ll start by hiking up to Gyaru – a steep climb to begin the day. The climate becomes drier and more arid, but the panoramic views make it worthwhile. Arrive in Manang and stay overnight at a lodge.
Day 06: Acclimatization Day / Excursion around Manang
Spend
the day exploring the beautiful Manang village situated in the Marshyangdi
River Valley. Located on a northern slope, it enjoys maximum sunlight and
minimal snow during winter. You can hike up to Bhojo Gompa – a monastery perched
on a hill offering spectacular views of Manang village and Gangapurna Lake – or
take a shorter hike to Gangapurna Lake itself. This day helps your body
acclimatize to the altitude.
Overnight at a lodge.
Day 07: Trek Manang – Yak Kharka (4,060 m / 13,320 ft) 4 hrs walk
Today is not longer distance to cover but due to higher altitude you start to walk slowly. You past Tenki Manang from where the view of Manang village and Marshyangdi river bed/valley behind with the Gangapurna lake and peak, and gigantic Annapurna massif is impressive. Arrive Yak Kharka and overnight stay at the lodge. You can, if you are fit and fine, go for short acclimatization walk in the evening.
Day 08: Trek Yak Kharka – Thorong Phedi (4,540 m / 14,895 ft) 4 hrs walk
From this point onward, the landscape becomes increasingly dry and the air thinner. The walk is steady but challenging due to the altitude. After about four hours, you’ll reach Thorong Phedi – the base camp of the Thorong La Pass.If you’re feeling strong and well-acclimatized, you may continue another 1.5 hours to High Camp (4,880 m / 16,010 ft). It makes the next day’s climb easier but also increases the risk of altitude sickness. Overnight at a lodge.
Day 09: Trek Thorong Phedi – Cross Thorong La Pass (5,416 m / 17,769 ft) – Muktinath (3,800 m / 12,467 ft) 8 hrs walk
Today
is the toughest and most rewarding day of the trek. Start early, before
sunrise, for the long ascent to Thorong La Pass – the highest point of the
journey. The first section to High Camp is steep, followed by a gradual but
relentless climb to the top.
Walking slowly and steadily, you’ll reach the prayer-flag-decorated pass
offering unforgettable views. After celebrating the achievement, descend a long
1,600 m to reach Muktinath, a sacred Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site
dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The landscape resembles the dry terrain of Tibet.
