The trek begins with a flight to Lukla and climbs through Namche Bazaar, Phortse Thanga and Machhermo to Gokyo, with a rest day at Namche built in to acclimatise. From Gokyo, the trail climbs Gokyo Ri before retracing a similar route back down to Lukla for the flight out.
Trail nights are spent in guesthouses with twin rooms, hot meals and a stove-heated common room, growing simpler in facilities the higher the trail climbs above Namche. Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu before and after the trek is arranged separately, giving flexibility over where to stay in the city either side of the trip.
This standard-basis version keeps the core trekking experience, including flights, guesthouses, permits and meals on the trail, while leaving Kathmandu accommodation flexible for guests who already have a preferred hotel or want to add extra city days of their own.
Guides are experienced with the Lukla flight schedule and its occasional delays, and the itinerary builds in a proper acclimatisation day and conservative daily height gain to manage the altitude safely.
The Gokyo valley sits west of the main Everest Base Camp trail, reached via Namche Bazaar and a quieter route that runs alongside the Ngozumpa Glacier, Nepal's largest, to a string of turquoise lakes fed by glacial meltwater. Gokyo Ri, the viewpoint above the lakes, is regarded by many trekkers as one of the finest panoramas in the region, taking in Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu.
Namche Bazaar, the main hub of the Khumbu region, holds the area's government offices, shops, cafes and a busy Saturday market, and is a good base for the acclimatisation day built into this itinerary. The trek begins with a hotel pickup in Kathmandu on the first morning ahead of the domestic flight to Lukla.
Kathmandu hotel accommodation before and after the trek is left for guests to arrange separately on this standard-basis package, giving flexibility over where to stay in the city. On the trail, nights are spent in Sherpa-run guesthouses with twin rooms and shared bathrooms that grow simpler in facilities above Namche Bazaar.
Every guesthouse has a stove-heated common room for the evenings, a welcome place to warm up after a day on the trail. A four season sleeping bag rated for sub-zero temperatures is essential for the cold nights on the approach to Gokyo Ri.
