Acclimatisation walks over Tizi Mzik, Tizi n’Aguelzim and Azib Tamsoult precede the Toubkal summit on this six-day mountain-to-desert journey, spreading altitude gain before the refuge night and pre-dawn climb to 4,167 metres. South-east roads then carry you toward Dades, Todra and Erg Chebbi luxury camp after the alpine challenge, with Ait Ben Haddou often visited on the transfer days.
Refuge dormitories and village gites contrast with plush desert tents after summit day, when a long descent to Aremd follows hours on scree and seasonal snow. Drivers and mountain guides share one schedule from Marrakech collection to final hotel drop-off, including camel treks at sunset and optional sunrise rides before the northbound Atlas crossing.
Spreading ascent across multiple cols reduces the shock of jumping straight to high refuge altitude. Camp staff, drivers and mountain guides coordinate refuge beds, hotels and desert camp on the same itinerary.
If weather turns, the extra mountain days allow modest route changes without cancelling the whole trip. Summit day still starts in the dark and demands strong fitness even with acclimatisation built in.
