This theory course focuses on coastal navigation, pilotage, safety procedures, and other foundational knowledge, setting you up for the practical element on the water. With online and classroom options, it’s designed to suit your schedule and learning style.
The course provides an in-depth exploration of navigation and seamanship skills, blending theoretical knowledge with practical exercises. Using realistic training charts and an almanac, you’ll cover key topics such as position fixing, plotting courses, weather patterns, and collision regulations.
The training also introduces the basics of boat construction, equipment, and handling emergencies, including the use of flares, lifejackets, and safety harnesses. Whether you choose the classroom or online format, you’ll complete two exams: one focused on chartwork and another on general navigation and safety knowledge. Online participants have 24/7 instructor support to guide them, while classroom learners benefit from real-time interaction and feedback from experienced instructors.

Yes, there are two exams:
Both exams are approximately 90 minutes each and can be completed at home if you’re taking the online course (unless required for commercial use).
