Itinerary
The first day focuses on the basics of winter mountaineering, starting with an overview of essential gear and techniques. You will learn how to move efficiently on snow-covered ground, progressing to using the ice axe and boots in challenging terrain. By the afternoon, you’ll begin practising with crampons on various surfaces, learning the vital techniques for ascending and descending safely.
Day two builds on the skills from the previous day, focusing on the importance of snowpack analysis, weather conditions, and how they affect your movements in the mountains. You’ll also learn basic rope work for steeper terrain, as well as emergency procedures, including shelter-building techniques that could prove life-saving.
The final day is about consolidating your skills. You’ll head out for a full day’s journey, aiming to summit one or more peaks while revisiting key techniques. The instructor will provide feedback throughout the day, ensuring you feel confident and ready to tackle similar conditions independently in the future.
