Fancy trying rock climbing? This four-day course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take your climbing to the next level. Whether you’re just starting out, looking to progress towards lead climbing, or keen to refine your techniques, the course is tailored to suit your goals. The Lake District provides the perfect backdrop, with its rich climbing history and fantastic variety of rock routes. We also offer options in Scotland and Wales for those looking to explore further afield.
This comprehensive four-day course offers a balance of skill development and hands-on climbing. We start by covering the basics: understanding climbing equipment, tying essential knots, and learning how to belay safely. As the course progresses, you’ll work on movement techniques, improving efficiency and confidence on different rock types, such as slabs, cracks, and vertical faces.
By day three and four, we introduce more advanced skills like building safe belay systems, abseiling, and practising safe retreat methods. For those ready to progress further, we’ll touch on the foundations of lead climbing, ensuring you feel confident managing ropes and protection. Throughout the course, the focus remains on safety, skill-building, and getting as much climbing time as possible. Each day is structured around your personal goals, ensuring you get the most out of the experience.
The Lake District serves as the main base for this course, offering a huge variety of climbing routes suitable for all levels. From classic beginner-friendly crags to more challenging faces, the area provides the perfect mix of learning and adventure.
We also operate courses in Scotland and Wales, where you can explore iconic climbs set against gorgeous natural landscapes.
No prior experience is required, but a reasonable level of fitness will help you get the most out of the four days.
Established in 2003, we have decades of experience providing enjoyable, safe, and informative climbing courses. With professional Mountain Instructor qualifications and a passion for sharing knowledge, we’re committed to helping you develop skills that you can carry forward into future climbing adventures.
Our approach is all about personalisation – tailoring the course to your goals and creating an engaging, hands-on learning environment. Whether you’re taking your first steps into outdoor climbing or aiming to build on existing skills, you’ll leave with confidence, knowledge, and plenty of climbing achievements to be proud of.
No prior experience is necessary. This four-day course is designed to suit all skill levels, from complete beginners to those looking to advance their climbing abilities.
We’ll start with the basics and progress at a pace that works for you, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable throughout.
We provide all technical climbing equipment, including ropes, harnesses, helmets, and climbing hardware.
You’ll need to bring your own climbing-appropriate clothing and footwear, such as comfortable, weather-appropriate layers and climbing shoes.
If you don’t have climbing shoes, let us know in advance, and we can help you source a rental pair.
Climbing outdoors is dependent on weather conditions, but we do our best to work around this. If the weather is unsuitable, we may adjust the plan, such as moving to a more sheltered location or focusing on other essential climbing skills.
In rare cases of extreme weather, we’ll discuss alternative options to make the most of your time.
A reasonable level of general fitness will help you get the most out of the course. Climbing involves physical movement, balance, and endurance, but the course is designed to progress gradually.
If you’re unsure about your fitness level, feel free to contact us to discuss further.
The course is primarily based in the Lake District, with exact meeting points provided after booking. If you’re travelling from further afield, we can recommend nearby accommodation options and transport links.
For courses in Scotland or Wales, specific details will be shared closer to the start date.
By the end of the four days, you’ll have a solid foundation in climbing skills, safety procedures, and techniques.
Many participants leave feeling confident enough to start planning their own outdoor climbing adventures. However, continued practice and experience will help you progress further.
No, food and accommodation are not included in the course price. We’re happy to recommend nearby accommodation options, ranging from campsites to B&Bs, depending on your preferences.
You’ll need to bring your own packed lunch and snacks for each day.

Had the benefit of having Paul to myself for this Hike up Helvellyn on Sun 12/10/25 on a on to one. Paul was welcoming, and very personable / friendly. He provided plenty of advice from walking & breathing techniques & walking with poles. Paul showed a lot of patience with…
Our time outdoor climbing with Paul was great! It was our first time trad climbing and also doing a multi-pitch climb.
