This two-day guided trek is for travellers who want High Atlas scenery, Berber village life and Toubkal valley paths without committing to a 4,167 m summit. After transfer from Marrakech to Imlil you meet your guide and mule team and climb toward Tizi n’Tamatert while walnut groves, stone hamlets and terraced fields line the route, with regular water stops and time for photos across the Imnane Valley.
Day two continues along well-used trails toward Sidi Chamharouch before you descend to Imlil and return to Marrakech by road, usually by late afternoon. Nights are in a traditional guesthouse in Aremd rather than a mountain refuge, so there is no pre-dawn summit start. Lunch on the trail is included each walking day, with dinner and breakfast at the guesthouse on your overnight stop.
Licensed local mountain guides know these valley paths through every season and manage the day around weather, group fitness and safe timings on the pass. Muleteers carry main luggage between stops while village cooks and guesthouse hosts provide shared meals.
The two-day format fits a Marrakech city break: one drive south, two full walking days and a return to your riad with energy left for the medina. Transfers, trail meals, guiding and mule support are organised as one package from pickup to final drop-off.
An early transfer takes you from Marrakech toward Imlil, the principal gateway village for Toubkal National Park. The scenic drive passes foothill villages before you meet your guide and mule team at the trailhead.
After a short briefing you set off on foot with a daypack while mules are loaded with main bags. The city noise fades quickly as walnut groves and terraced fields appear above the valley floor.
The path climbs steadily toward Tizi n’Tamatert with wide views into the Imnane Valley. Stone hamlets and farming terraces line the route as you gain height with regular water stops.
You descend toward Aremd, one of the larger traditional villages above Imlil, for a shared dinner and night in a Berber guesthouse. Walking time is typically 5 to 6 hours from the trailhead. Meals included: lunch and dinner.
Breakfast at the guesthouse sets you up for a full day along the Toubkal valley toward the shrine area at Sidi Chamharouch, a well-known landmark on the classic route toward the high refuge.
After lunch on the trail you descend to Imlil to meet your driver for the road back to Marrakech, usually arriving by late afternoon. Walking time is typically 5 to 6 hours. Meals included: breakfast and lunch.
Your driver collects you from your Marrakech accommodation, often meeting on foot when the riad sits on a narrow lane. Airport collection on the tour start day can be arranged when flight times allow.
At the end of day 2 you are dropped at the nearest accessible point to your hotel or riad. If needed, the driver can coordinate with your accommodation so someone is ready to meet you.
Most trekking kit can be rented in Imlil if you prefer not to travel with full mountain gear.
You are picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Many riads sit on pedestrian lanes, so the driver parks nearby and walks in to meet you with your bags.
At the end of day two you are dropped at the nearest point your vehicle can reach. Same-day Menara Airport pickup can be arranged when your flight lands on the morning the trek starts.
Plan for two full days of roughly 5 to 6 hours on steep, uneven trails with a light daypack. Regular hill walking or stair training in the weeks before travel makes the passes feel much easier.
You do not need climbing skills on this valley route, but a steady pace and broken-in boots matter. If you are unsure, tell us about your recent walks when you enquire and we will advise honestly.
Night one is in a Berber guesthouse in Aremd above Imlil. Expect simple village accommodation with shared bathrooms rather than a hotel-style room.
Evening and morning meals are served at the guesthouse. The exact property can change with season and group size, but the standard of care and the village setting stay the same.
All meals on the two-day trek are included: lunch and dinner on day one, then breakfast and lunch on day two before your return transfer.
Vegetarian and other dietary needs can usually be arranged if you mention them when you book. Soft drinks and alcohol are not included unless you buy them locally.
Yes. Muleteers transport your main luggage between Imlil and Aremd while you walk with a daypack on the path.
Keep water, spare layers, snacks, camera and any medication in the bag you carry yourself, as you will not have access to mule loads until you reach the guesthouse.
Sturdy walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm layers for cool evenings, a daypack, water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen and a soft bag for mule loads cover the essentials.
Much of this can be rented from equipment shops in Imlil if you prefer not to travel with full mountain kit. A head torch is useful for early starts or dim corridors at the guesthouse.
Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended, covering hiking on mountain trails and any assistance you may need away from towns.
Check that your policy covers multi-day trekking on steep, uneven terrain at moderate altitude, and keep emergency contact details handy on the trail.
Solo travellers, couples, families and private groups are all welcome. Per-person pricing follows the group-size bands shown when you book.
Private departures on dates that suit you are available on request when you want a dedicated guide and your own schedule.
Mist on Tamatert or showers in the Toubkal valley may slow progress or shorten photo stops, but the trek usually continues with adjusted pacing.
If conditions are unsafe on exposed slopes, the guide may wait out brief squalls or modify the route for the day. Severe weather can lead to an alternative date or itinerary, in line with our cancellation policy.
Reserve at least seven days ahead when you can so guesthouse beds, guides and mule teams are free for your dates.
Last-minute requests are sometimes possible when capacity allows. Send your preferred dates and group size and we will reply as soon as we can.
