Experience a full day of birdwatching in the Atlas Mountains, surrounded by valleys, rivers, and dramatic peaks. Spot a variety of species, from colourful residents to impressive migratory birds, while learning from an expert local guide. Enjoy breathtaking scenery and authentic Moroccan culture along the way.
After an early pickup from your hotel in Marrakech, settle in for a scenic drive towards the Atlas Mountains. Watch as the city’s hustle and bustle gives way to open countryside, passing through small villages and farmland. Along the way, your guide will point out notable landscapes and the kinds of birds you might see once you arrive. The route takes you to valleys rich in plant life, gentle rivers perfect for spotting water birds, and mountain ridges where raptors often soar.
Throughout the morning, stops are made at prime birdwatching spots, with time to take in the surroundings, listen to birdsong, and enjoy the peaceful pace of nature. Expect to see both endemic species and migratory visitors, with plenty of opportunities for photography. Your guide will share knowledge on bird behaviour, identification tips, and the role these species play in the local ecosystem.
Around midday, enjoy a break in a traditional Berber home for a freshly prepared Moroccan lunch. This is a chance to relax, chat with locals, and taste regional dishes. In the afternoon, the tour continues through new landscapes, giving you the opportunity to spot different birds and appreciate the changing views of the mountains. The day ends with a comfortable drive back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon feeling refreshed and inspired by the day’s encounters.
The Atlas Mountains stretch across Morocco and offer an amazing mix of habitats, making them a paradise for birdwatchers. Valleys, rivers, forests, and rocky peaks create the perfect setting to see a diverse range of bird species throughout the year. The combination of altitude and climate supports everything from small passerines to large birds of prey.
Your tour takes place in a section of the High Atlas easily reached from Marrakech, meaning less travel time and more time outdoors. This region is also known for its cultural richness, with small Berber communities dotted across the mountains, adding a unique and authentic feel to your birdwatching day.
Suitable for anyone with an interest in birds or nature. No prior birdwatching experience is necessary as your guide will provide all the support and information you need.
A moderate level of walking is involved, so comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Binoculars are useful but not essential, as some can be provided.
Guided by passionate and highly experienced birdwatching experts, you’ll not only see birds but also gain insight into their behaviours, habitats, and conservation. The team knows the best spots and times for sightings, ensuring your day is both productive and enjoyable.
With a strong focus on personal service, small group sizes, and local knowledge, each tour feels tailored to your interests. The combination of expert guidance, scenic locations, and authentic cultural experiences makes this a day out you’ll remember long after you return to Marrakech.
The meeting point is in Marrakech, with pick-up and drop off available from your hotel.

Not at all. This tour is designed for both beginners and seasoned birdwatchers. If you’re new to the activity, your guide will take the time to explain the basics, such as how to use binoculars effectively, identify different species, and recognise calls. You’ll also be shown how to spot movement in different habitats, making it easier to locate birds even if they’re well-camouflaged.
For those with more experience, the guide can share more advanced tips, including insights on seasonal bird migrations in the Atlas Mountains and the unique behaviours of local species. The mix of environments visited means there are opportunities to add rare and interesting birds to your personal list, no matter your skill level.
The Atlas Mountains are home to a wide variety of birds. Depending on the time of year, you could spot colourful bee-eaters, African blue tits, crimson-winged finches, and Barbary partridges. Raptors like golden eagles, long-legged buzzards, and Bonelli’s eagles are often seen circling high above the peaks. The lush valleys and riverbanks also attract waders and smaller songbirds, making for an exciting mix of sightings.
Your guide will tailor the day’s route to maximise the chances of spotting species that are in season. Migratory birds pass through during certain months, so you might also see flocks stopping to feed or rest on their long journeys. Photography opportunities are plentiful, with both perched and in-flight views to capture.
The experience is a full-day activity, starting with a 7:00 AM hotel pickup in Marrakech and finishing with a return in the late afternoon. Travel time to and from the Atlas Mountains is included in this duration, but the majority of your day will be spent outdoors, moving between prime birdwatching locations.
Each stop is carefully planned to make the most of daylight hours, ensuring you have enough time to observe and photograph birds without feeling rushed. Breaks are built into the day, including a leisurely lunch in a Berber home and shorter pauses for rest or refreshments.
Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended as some areas may involve walking on uneven or rocky paths. Dressing in layers is best, as mountain weather can change quickly. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also advisable for sun protection.
If you own binoculars or a camera, these will enhance your experience, although binoculars may be available to borrow. Bringing a small backpack for personal items and a reusable water bottle can make your day more comfortable.

The highlight of our trip to Morocco was the two days we spent in the Atlas Mountains, organised by Mohamed Adventuro, we left Marrakech unaware of just how beautiful and friendly this part of the world would be. Two days hiking around the mountains in the shadow of Mount Toubkal,…
The actual trip was fantastic overall- Rachid picked me up as planned and we went up to Imlil. However, the route was not as described in the Adventuro listing and was hard work (745 metres ascent total in 12.5km, the last 5km being about 500m ascent all uphill) not a…
My friend and I had an amazing time on our guided trail run in the Atlas Mountains. Our guide was the local 10km trail champion and he adjusted to the distance and pace we wanted to run, taking us on a beautiful trail through the mountains and villages. A delicious…
We had a fantastic trail run in the Atlas Mountains. We did 20km with 1000m elevation gain. The scenery was incredible. Our guide was able to run at any pace and the trails chosen were great. The lunch afterwards was also delicious. Would highly recommend and wish I could do…
