Swim, scramble and float along the rocks from Harlyn Bay, through pools and caves that you cannot reach from the coast path. Jumps are optional, so you can stay in the water at a height that feels useful rather than being pushed off a ledge. The session is two hours from the base and back, with a wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid included.
The first part is on the sand: a safety brief, kit fitting and a look at how the swell is working. Then you move along the shoreline, swimming through pools, climbing onto ledges and choosing whether to jump. Guides hold surf lifesaving and first aid awards, and they will not let you take a bigger jump until your technique is clean.
Please arrive 30 minutes early so the fitting is not rushed. Trainers that can get wet, or wetsuit boots, are required. Open-toe shoes and wetsuit shoes are not accepted. Glasses stay on the sand after the brief and sit with the first-aid kit.
The route starts from the beach base on Harlyn Bay, in front of the large car park. The rocks here give pools, caves and optional jumps without a long walk-in. The coast path runs above the route if someone wants to watch.
Toilets and two food outlets sit in the car park. Lifeguards cover the bay from Easter to September. Dogs are allowed on the beach, though they cannot come on the coasteer.
You need to swim 50 metres unaided and be happy in open water. The usual minimum age is 12. Younger children are only considered in calm conditions, and you need to ask first rather than booking this listing for them.
Bring trainers or wetsuit boots, swimwear and a towel. Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. From October to May we would rather you wear one of our winter suits unless yours is a proper winter thickness.
This team started these routes in 2008 and is a member of the National Coasteering Charter. Guides know the tides on this stretch, which is why jumps stay optional and why a session can still run when it is raining.
Chris has run the beach base since 1994. The same licence that covers the surf school covers this session, so you are not joining a one-off operator on the rocks.
Meet at the beach base on Harlyn Bay, PL28 8PD, in front of the large pay-and-display car park.
Please arrive 30 minutes before your start time for kit fitting.
About two hours from the base and back, including kit fitting and the brief. The rest is on the rocks and in the water, at a pace that fits the group in front of the guide.
Please arrive 30 minutes early so the fitting is not rushed. Start times move with the tide, so check the slot you booked rather than assuming a fixed hour.
No. Every jump is optional. There is always another way around a ledge, so you can stay in the water at a height that feels useful.
Guides will not let you take a bigger jump until your technique is clean. That is how the session stays useful for a mixed group without anyone being pushed.
Twelve, and you need to swim 50 metres unaided. Buoyancy aids are worn, but they are not a substitute for being happy in open water.
Younger children are only considered in calm conditions, and only if you ask first. This listing is not the place to turn up with an 11-year-old hoping it will be fine.
A wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid. You must bring trainers that can get wet, or wetsuit boots. Open-toe shoes and wetsuit shoes are not accepted, because the rock is sharp and slippery.
Your own full-length wetsuit is fine. From October to May we would rather you wear one of our winter suits unless yours is a proper winter thickness.

Rain alone does not stop a session. You will be wet anyway, and some of the better days here have been grey. We cancel when the wind or swell makes the route unsafe.
If we cancel, we rearrange or offer another activity if one is free. If you are driving a long way, message us the day before for a sense of the sea.
You can wear them for the brief on the sand. They come off before you get on the rocks, because a knock on a ledge is how lenses get lost or broken.
We store them with the first-aid kit. If you cannot manage without them in the water, say so when you book so we can talk through whether this session is the right fit.
Between two and sixteen, with enough guides for the headcount. Two is the minimum for the session to run. If that number is not met, we will be in touch to move you.
Larger groups, including hen and work bookings, can still run. Ask when you book so we have the right number of guides and suits.
You need to walk on uneven rock, swim through sections of open water and climb out onto ledges. You do not need to be an athlete. A basic level of fitness and confidence in the water is enough.
If you have a joint issue or you are pregnant, this is not the right session. Ask us before you book rather than hoping the route will be gentle that day.
Swimwear. Bring a towel and warm dry clothes for afterwards. Sunscreen still helps on a bright day, even if you spend most of the two hours in the water.
Leave bags in the car. We can hold keys. If you need medication in the water, give it to the guide for the waterproof bag.

We bought this for our children and their partners. Chris was absolutely brilliant with them all and they had a great time. Would definitely book again and highly recommend!
Chris the guide was absolutely lovely. Calm and supportive and judged making the adventure the right level of fun and excitement.

A great experience from start to finish. Very knowledgeable and welcoming instructors - despite being in open water, they helped with a diabetic hypo with ease and professionalism. They both helped each group member if they had fears or wanted to complete obstacle again. A really really great day, lovely…

The whole booking of the introduction to Paddle boarding was really good. Apart from double booking myself, but Kat was really helpful in sorting this out. The communication was excellent and gave us clear instructions on what to wear and bring. Chris who did our session was so lovely, helpful…
