Evening hours along the Zanzibar coast are ideal for spending time on the water. This private sunset catamaran cruise sails from Kendwa Beach along the shoreline towards Nungwi, giving your group space to relax with drinks, music, and light snacks as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.
Arrival takes place at Kendwa Beach where your crew welcomes you on board the 45 foot catamaran. Boarding happens directly from the sand before you settle into the boat’s shaded seating area or relax on the front nets. Shortly after departure, a welcome drink is served while the catamaran begins a steady sail along the coastline. The route follows the stretch of water between Kendwa Beach and Nungwi Beach, an area known for calm seas and clear evening skies.
As the cruise continues, unlimited drinks from the open bar are available while light snacks and fresh fruit are served on board. Island music plays softly in the background as the boat drifts offshore near Nungwi, creating a comfortable place to watch the sun gradually lower toward the horizon. Many guests choose to relax on the bow nets during this time, while others prefer the shaded deck where they can enjoy the changing colours across the water.
Once the sun has set, the catamaran begins the return journey toward Kendwa Beach. The evening breeze and fading light create a relaxed atmosphere while guests take final photos and enjoy the last drinks of the cruise. The boat arrives back on the beach where you disembark directly onto the sand to end the experience.
Kendwa Beach sits on the northern coast of Zanzibar and is known for its wide sandy shoreline and clear water. Unlike many other areas of the island, Kendwa is less affected by tidal changes, which makes it a reliable departure point for boat trips throughout the day and evening.
The cruise route follows the coast between Kendwa and nearby Nungwi, another well known fishing village at the northern tip of the island. This stretch of coastline offers open views across the Indian Ocean and is a popular area for sunset sailing due to the clear western horizon.
Guests should be comfortable stepping onto the catamaran from the beach as boarding takes place directly from the sand. Crew members assist during boarding and disembarking to ensure everyone gets on and off the boat safely.
The cruise is designed to be relaxed and suitable for most travellers. However, it may not be suitable for pregnant guests or those with mobility limitations due to beach boarding and movement on the boat.
A private catamaran allows your group to enjoy the Zanzibar sunset without the crowds often found on shared cruises. The boat, crew, drinks, and snacks are dedicated entirely to your group, creating a calm setting for celebrating, relaxing, or simply enjoying the views.
Planning is kept straightforward with hotel transfers available from Kendwa and Nungwi, while the meeting point is easy to reach for guests staying elsewhere. From the welcome drink to the final sail back to the beach, the experience focuses on a comfortable and memorable evening on the water.
The catamaran is reserved exclusively for your group, meaning no other guests will join the experience. This creates a relaxed environment where you can enjoy the sunset, music, and drinks without sharing the space with strangers.
Private use of the boat also allows the crew to focus entirely on your group throughout the cruise. Whether you want to relax quietly on the bow nets or enjoy drinks with friends, the setting remains comfortable and personal.
The cruise departs directly from Kendwa Beach on the northern coast of Zanzibar. Boarding takes place from the beach, where the crew welcomes guests and helps them step onto the catamaran safely.
Guests staying in Kendwa or Nungwi can take advantage of the included hotel transfer service. Travellers staying elsewhere can head directly to the meeting point on the beach before the scheduled departure time.
The open bar includes beer, wine, soft drinks, and bottled water throughout the cruise. Guests are free to enjoy drinks at their own pace while relaxing on board.
Crew members serve drinks during the sailing and while the catamaran drifts offshore during sunset. The focus is on creating a relaxed atmosphere rather than a party environment.
Light snacks and a fresh fruit platter are served during the trip. These are designed to complement the drinks and provide something refreshing while enjoying the sunset views.
The fruit selection usually includes tropical options that are commonly available on the island. Snacks are served during the calmer part of the cruise while the boat drifts near Nungwi.
Sunset cruises are scheduled at the best time of day to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Most evenings offer clear views, especially along this part of the coast.
Weather conditions can sometimes affect the visibility of the sunset, but the cruise still provides a pleasant evening on the water with sailing, drinks, and coastal views.
