This course is a comprehensive two-day programme accredited by British Canoeing. It's meticulously designed to equip kayakers and canoeists with vital skills and knowledge to ensure personal and group safety, as well as effectively manage emergencies in white water environments.
The course covers white water safety and rescue techniques over two days. Participants will learn about white water characteristics, risk assessment, and safety measures for personal protection. They will also improve their white water swimming techniques and master essential rescue skills, including throw-bag rescues and basic rope work, while learning how to apply mechanical advantage for efficient rescue operations.
With a focus on incident management, participants will gain the confidence to handle emergencies such as capsized boats and entrapments effectively. The course will also cover effective communication and teamwork strategies, as well as provide a thorough understanding of essential rescue equipment and its proper use, ensuring participants have a well-rounded skillset to navigate white water environments with confidence and competence.
The course takes place at our training centre located on the banks of the river Dee in Llangollen, providing an ideal setting for practical learning and hands-on experience.
Participants of all skill levels are welcome. Basic paddling skills and comfort swimming in moving water are required, but no prior white water experience is necessary.
Our centre offers a supportive and engaging learning environment led by experienced instructors. With a focus on practical skills and real-world scenarios, our course ensures participants are well-prepared to navigate white water safely and confidently.
Upon completion, you'll not only receive a nationally recognised certification but also gain invaluable skills that enhance your enjoyment and safety in whitewater environments.
