Across five days, you'll develop the practical and theoretical knowledge required to achieve the SLSGB Beach Lifeguard Qualification. Training combines classroom sessions, pool-based skills and open-water exercises, helping you build confidence in real rescue scenarios while working alongside experienced instructors.
The course covers beach environments and patrol procedures, communication techniques, emergency planning and incident reporting before progressing into casualty care, CPR, first aid and life support. Practical rescue sessions include tube rescues, ocean board rescues, surf rescues and casualty handling, with regular assessments throughout the course to prepare you for the final qualification.
As well as learning rescue techniques, you'll complete the fitness standards expected of professional beach lifeguards. Swimming, running, lifting and timed rescue exercises all form part of the programme, ensuring you're prepared for the physical demands of the role.
Training is based at Gupton Farm near Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire, with practical sessions taking place at suitable local beaches selected according to the surf, tides and weather conditions. This allows participants to experience a range of realistic beach environments throughout the course.

Participants must be at least 16 years old and be medically fit to complete a physically demanding course. Confidence in the water is essential, as the qualification includes swimming, rescue techniques, running and lifting throughout the week.
Before qualifying, you'll be expected to complete the required swimming and fitness assessments, demonstrate practical rescue skills and successfully pass the first aid, CPR and theory assessments that form part of the SLSGB qualification.

Got some surfboards and wetsuits for a couple of hours. They were dropped off at the right place right time, he was very helpful and knowledgeable, gave us a little info about the beach because we hadn't surfed there before. Will definitely be using again and recommending
