The RYA Youth Sailing Stage 3 course is designed to advance young sailors beyond basic skills, building confidence and independence on the water. This course takes place at Brighton Marina and is ideal for youths aged 10 to 16 who have already completed RYA Stages 1 & 2. By the end of this course, participants will have developed the skills needed to sail without an instructor onboard, with teaching provided from a safety boat. This exciting, hands-on course is the perfect next step for aspiring sailors, preparing them for RYA Stage 4.
The RYA Stage 3 course builds on previous sailing knowledge by introducing more advanced techniques and increasing independence on the water. With instruction provided from a safety boat, participants will gain the confidence to helm and crew a boat on their own.
Course content includes:
By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of sailing a boat both as crew and helm, and will be able to manoeuvre the boat in a variety of conditions. This course prepares young sailors for more advanced sailing and independence on the water.
The course takes place at Brighton Marina, offering an ideal environment for learning to sail in real coastal conditions. Brighton Marina provides sheltered waters for practicing manoeuvres and open sea access for more advanced sailing techniques.
Participants must have completed RYA Youth Sailing Stages 1 & 2. The course is suitable for children aged 10 to 16, but younger sailors can complete their training at Hove Lagoon before progressing to this level.
