RYA Windsurf Intermediate Course in Hove

The RYA Intermediate Non-Planing Course is designed to help you take your windsurfing skills to the next level. This course will prepare you to confidently windsurf in stronger winds and on the sea, using higher performance sails and lighter boards. With the RYA Fastfwd Formula, you’ll improve your technique and gain the skills necessary for more advanced windsurfing, including faster tacks, gybes, and harness work.

Course Breakdown

The RYA Windsurf Intermediate Course focuses on essential techniques to help you progress towards windsurfing in stronger winds and prepare you for sea conditions. You'll be taught how to tune your equipment for optimal performance and practise using high-performance gear in a supportive learning environment.

Course content includes:

• Beachstarts: Learn to get on your board quickly and efficiently from the beach.
• Harness work: Improve your stance and balance using the harness to make sailing more comfortable and efficient in stronger winds.
• Faster tacking and gybing: Master these critical turning techniques to handle the board with confidence.
• Sailing in stronger winds: Gain experience in more challenging wind conditions, developing the control needed for open water.
• Equipment tuning: Introduction to adjusting your sail and board for optimal performance.
• Getting ready for the sea: Build the confidence and skills needed to windsurf on the sea in suitable conditions.

Location

All lessons take place at Hove Lagoon, a sheltered body of seawater just minutes from Brighton’s seafront. The calm waters of the lagoon make it an ideal setting for practising intermediate windsurfing skills in a controlled environment before progressing to the sea.

Prerequisites

This course is suitable for participants who have already completed the RYA Start Windsurfing Course and are comfortable sailing on all points of sail in light winds. If you're a non-swimmer, please inform us in advance so we can make necessary safety arrangements.
