The RYA Small Craft First Aid Course is an essential one-day training programme designed for anyone who spends time on the water, whether as a skipper or crew member. While first aid may not seem like the most thrilling subject, it’s absolutely vital when you’re 20 miles offshore, and something goes wrong. This course equips you with the knowledge and skills to handle minor ailments like sunburn and headaches, as well as serious medical emergencies such as resuscitation and treating a man overboard victim. With our experienced instructor, who is both an ex-paramedic and a seasoned mariner, you’ll receive hands-on, practical training tailored to the unique challenges of providing first aid at sea.
Learn how to treat common on-board issues like sunburn, headaches, and small cuts or lesions. These might seem minor, but knowing how to address them properly can prevent more serious complications.
Gain confidence in dealing with serious medical emergencies, including resuscitation techniques, CPR, and the recovery position. There’s a particular focus on the “first care” of a man overboard victim, which is crucial when operating in coastal or offshore environments.
Understand the procedures for obtaining outside medical help, including how to effectively communicate with rescue services and what to expect from a helicopter rescue operation.
This course is designed to be highly practical, allowing you to try out the techniques yourself. You’ll practice CPR, the recovery position, and other critical first aid procedures using dummies and other training equipment.
As a skipper, you have the responsibility to ensure the safety of your crew. This course emphasises the importance of being prepared to provide first aid when needed, ensuring that you can handle any situation that arises on board.
The course is held at our training centre in Menai Bridge, North Wales. The instructor/guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable, and we had great fun on the boat
We loved our boat trip, water doughnuts and speeding along 50mph + was great fun. Our skipper was lovely, very knowledgeable and enthusiasm shone through. Want to come back and see the puffins next year... although this was my soul reason to book this trip it really did not disappoint…
The Rib Tour was amazing! Exhilarating ride on the rib combined with fascinating facts about the coastline and the birds on puffin island. Highly recommended, will be booking the bridges tour next.
Exhilarating but also really informative. A great experience all round and highly recommended
Brilliant! Loved when Jason put the RIB into ‘sports mode’. Perfect mix of adventure and information. Beautiful scenery, great morning in the water. Cheers guys.
What a great experience. Our skipper, Jason, was great. Good chat, very knowledgable and really pushed the boat. The boat is an impressive thing which really moves. Great experience! Will be back to do the other tour.
Excellent!
Splendid trip!.....Captain was very knowledgeable.
We really enjoyed the boat trip to Puffin Island (2 August) - the people before us saw 2 puffins but even though we didn't it was still an exhilarating, (fast at times) and informative trip.
