If you are intending to apply for or renew a Commercial Endorsement to any of your RYA qualifications then you will need to complete the PPR Course. Whatever your job is on board a vessel in the commercial world you are considered to be a professional seafarer, and as such you can be held accountable if things go wrong. The PPR Course is designed to help you understand your professional practices and responsibilities.
The course is broken down into four modules. Commercial environment covers how you fit into the professional maritime world. People covers the importance of correct manning, keeping your skills up to date and the safe management of commercial vessels. Vessel covers the compulsory carriage and maintenance of safety equipment and how to create and implement risk control and operating procedures. Purpose covers making sure your vessel is suitable and legal for the work you are carrying out, your obligations in protecting the environment, appropriate planning and situational awareness.
Following the modules there is a mock assessment so you can check you are ready before moving on to the final graded online assessment. We estimate users will take around 6 to 8 hours to work through the four course modules. The graded end of course assessment is split into two sections, totalling 2 and a half hours. All new applicants for a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must first pass the PPR Course. Anyone renewing a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must pass the PPR course prior to their next renewal date, if they have not already done so.
This is an online course taken in your own time and at home. You are welcome to come into our training centre in Menai Bridge and complete the course if you prefer, using the classroom at 40 High Street.
The classroom is in the town itself, easily reached by taking junction 8A onto the A5 off the A55 at Britannia Bridge, with Pay and Display parking across the road.
PPR is for anyone applying for a new commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence, and for anyone renewing a commercially endorsed certificate who has not already passed the course. No previous commercial ticket is required to start the modules.
You will need a computer or tablet with internet access if you study at home. The mock assessment is there so you can check you are ready before the graded paper. Once passed, the certificate sits with your commercial endorsement application or renewal.
What makes a Seawake Powerboat Training course different is our team. We are all enthusiastic powerboaters with a vast amount of experience on the water, and this online course sits alongside the commercial tickets we run from Menai Bridge.
Our instructors come from varied backgrounds but have tonnes of experience and boating know-how in common. If you would rather work through the modules in the classroom than at home, the same team and the same High Street classroom are there for you.
The Professional Practices and Responsibilities course is designed to help you understand your professional practices and responsibilities. If you are intending to apply for or renew a Commercial Endorsement to any of your RYA qualifications then you will need to complete it.
Whatever your job is on board a vessel in the commercial world you are considered to be a professional seafarer, and as such you can be held accountable if things go wrong. The course sets out how that duty sits with you.
All new applicants for a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must first pass the PPR Course. Anyone renewing a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must pass the PPR course prior to their next renewal date, if they have not already done so.
That includes skippers, instructors and crew who work under a commercially endorsed RYA ticket, whether the endorsement sits on Powerboat Level 2, Advanced or another RYA Certificate of Competence.
Commercial environment covers how you fit into the professional maritime world. People covers the importance of correct manning, keeping your skills up to date and the safe management of commercial vessels.

Purpose covers making sure your vessel is suitable and legal for the work you are carrying out, your obligations in protecting the environment, appropriate planning and situational awareness.
We estimate users will take around 6 to 8 hours to work through the four course modules. You study in your own time, so you can pause and come back to a module rather than sitting it all in one sitting.
Following the modules there is a mock assessment so you can check you are ready. The graded end of course assessment is split into two sections, totalling 2 and a half hours.
Yes. It is an online course taken in your own time and at home, and you are welcome to come into our training centre and complete the course if you prefer. The classroom is at 40 High Street, Menai Bridge.
The modules and the graded assessment are the same either way. The classroom option simply gives you a quiet desk and the same High Street setting as our other shore-based courses.
Yes. Following the four modules there is a mock assessment so you can check you are ready before moving on to the final graded online assessment. It is there to show you the style of the questions, not to catch you out.
The graded paper is then split into two sections, totalling 2 and a half hours. Work through the mock first so you know which module you want to revisit.
Anyone renewing a commercially endorsed RYA Certificate of Competence must pass the PPR course prior to their next renewal date, if they have not already done so. If you have already passed PPR, you do not sit it again for that renewal.
New applicants must pass it before the endorsement is issued. Keep the certificate with your other commercial paperwork, alongside First Aid, VHF and sea survival.
A computer or tablet with internet access is enough for home study. The course is broken into four modules you can work through in your own time, so you do not need a radio, a boat or a classroom to begin.
If you would rather not study at home, the Menai Bridge classroom is available for the same modules. Bring only what you need for a quiet study day.
A commercially endorsed Certificate of Competence is the RYA ticket for operating commercially, and PPR is one of the certificates you need before that endorsement is issued or renewed. It sits alongside First Aid, VHF and sea survival on the application.
Passing PPR does not replace the COC exam itself. It shows you understand the professional practices and responsibilities that come with working on a commercial vessel.
No. Whatever your job is on board a vessel in the commercial world you are considered to be a professional seafarer. The modules cover people, the vessel and the purpose of the trip, not only the person at the helm.
Instructors, crew and skippers applying for or renewing a commercial endorsement all use the same four modules and the same graded assessment.

The boattrip was amazing! We enjoyed every minute! Jason our captain told us a lot from the wildlife on Puffin Island. We really recommend this trip, it’s worth the money for sure.
Fantastic experience led by friendly, efficient and interesting people.
The instructor/guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable, and we had great fun on the boat
We loved our boat trip, water doughnuts and speeding along 50mph + was great fun. Our skipper was lovely, very knowledgeable and enthusiasm shone through. Want to come back and see the puffins next year... although this was my soul reason to book this trip it really did not disappoint…
The Rib Tour was amazing! Exhilarating ride on the rib combined with fascinating facts about the coastline and the birds on puffin island. Highly recommended, will be booking the bridges tour next.
Exhilarating but also really informative. A great experience all round and highly recommended
Brilliant! Loved when Jason put the RIB into ‘sports mode’. Perfect mix of adventure and information. Beautiful scenery, great morning in the water. Cheers guys.
What a great experience. Our skipper, Jason, was great. Good chat, very knowledgable and really pushed the boat. The boat is an impressive thing which really moves. Great experience! Will be back to do the other tour.
Excellent!
