Cafe France on Jemaa el-Fnaa is the meet-up, then you travel out to the foothills around Lalla Takerkoust for a tandem flight with a professional instructor. After a ground briefing you take off over valleys, villages and open slopes. The whole outing usually fills around four hours from meeting to return, and no flying experience is needed.
Once the group is together beside Cafe France you leave the medina toward the lake country around Lalla Takerkoust. On arrival your instructor checks the wind, talks you through the harness, the short run at takeoff and the landing position, and answers questions before anyone leaves the ground. You stay clipped in with them for the whole flight, so you are not steering the wing yourself.
When the slope is clear you run a few steps, lift off and look over valleys, villages and the dry hills that rise toward the High Atlas. Time in the air follows the wind on the day rather than a fixed clock. After landing you pack in with the team and return to the square, which usually closes the outing inside a four-hour window from the original meeting time.
Open slopes and lake country around Lalla Takerkoust give pilots room to fly on settled days, a short drive south-west of the city. The takeoff area looks over valleys, scattered villages and the dry hills that rise toward the High Atlas, so the flight stays close to the landscape rather than circling over rooftops.
Jemaa el-Fnaa is the meeting point, a short walk from Cafe France on the square, before the drive out of town. Once you leave the medina traffic the road opens toward the lake and the hills, and you are usually back in Marrakech within the same half-day window, with time left for the rest of your plans in the city.
You do not need previous paragliding experience. Your instructor flies the wing and talks you through the run, the landing position and how to sit in the harness before you leave the ground. Comfortable sports clothing, closed shoes and a light jacket are enough for most days on the hill.
You should be able to jog a few steps at takeoff and follow simple instructions in English. The flight depends on wind and visibility, and may be moved if conditions are unsafe. Anyone with recent surgery, pregnancy or a condition that makes a short run difficult should tell us before travelling so we can advise on the day.
A clear meeting point on Jemaa el-Fnaa keeps the start simple, and a professional instructor handles the wing so you can concentrate on the briefing and the views. The outing is built around a single tandem flight, not a long classroom session, which suits first-timers who want a first taste of flying near Marrakech.
The team watches the wind around Lalla Takerkoust before you travel, so you are not sent out when the hill is not flyable. When conditions are good, you get time on the ground to get used to the harness, then a flight over the foothills before the return to the square.
Meet at Jamaa el Fena near Cafe France, on Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakech. The cafe sits on the square and is a straightforward landmark if you are walking from the medina or arriving by petit taxi.
We will confirm the exact time once your stay is known. Bring a charged phone so we can find each other if the square is busy, and allow a few extra minutes if you are coming from a riad on a narrow lane.
Plan around four hours from the meeting on Jemaa el-Fnaa to the return to the same area. That window covers the drive to the Lalla Takerkoust foothills, the briefing, the flight and the journey back into town.
Time in the air follows the wind and the instructor's judgement on the day, so it is not a fixed number of minutes. If you have another plan the same afternoon, keep a little slack after the four-hour mark in case the hill is busy.
Paragliding needs workable wind and decent visibility. If the hill around Lalla Takerkoust is not safe, the team will postpone rather than launch. You will be told as early as practical, often the same morning or the evening before.
Keep a flexible half-day in Marrakech if you are travelling in a windier season, so a move to another slot is easier to manage.
Hotel or riad collection is not part of this product. You make your own way to Cafe France on Jemaa el-Fnaa, then we handle the transfer from that meeting point out to the takeoff site and back to the square.
Petit taxis and on-foot routes through the medina both work if you leave a little early. If you are staying well outside the old city, plan the extra travel time yourself and message us if you think you will be late.
No. This is a tandem flight. Your instructor flies the wing, and you follow the short run and landing position shown in the briefing. There is no solo flying and no classroom course attached to the session.
You should be comfortable jogging a few steps on a slope and sitting in a harness. Closed shoes make the takeoff and landing easier on uneven ground at the hill.
Wear comfortable sports clothing for the season, with a light jacket or windbreaker you can add on the hill. Closed trainers or walking shoes are better than sandals, because you run a few steps at takeoff and may walk on dusty ground after landing.
Sunglasses and sunscreen help once you are in the open. Tie back long hair, leave loose scarves in your bag, and keep phones on a strap or in a zipped pocket so both hands stay free when the wing inflates.
Cafe France faces Jemaa el-Fnaa, so most guests walk from a nearby riad or take a petit taxi to the square and continue on foot for the last stretch. Drivers often drop you at the edge of the plaza if the centre is closed to cars.
Look for the cafe frontage on the square rather than a hidden side door. If you cannot see the group, stay by the cafe and call the number we send rather than walking toward the lake on your own.
Cameras and phones are welcome if they are secured. Hold them firmly, because there is no table in the air and you will need both hands for the landing position. A wrist strap or a zipped chest pocket is more practical than a loose grip.
Any souvenir photographs or video offered on the hill are separate from the flight itself. Ask on the day if that option is available, and do not count on a crew camera if you want your own pictures.
From Cafe France we take you to the takeoff site around Lalla Takerkoust and back to the meeting area. The tandem flight, the instructor, the wing, harness and helmet, and the ground briefing are all part of the session.
Meals, drinks, insurance and tips are not included. Bring a bottle of water and any snacks you want for the drive, because there is not always a cafe stop at the hill itself.
You fly tandem with a professional instructor who handles the wing from takeoff to landing. They stay with you for the briefing, the short run and the flight, and they decide whether the wind on the slope is good enough to go.
If more than one guest is on the same morning, flights usually run one after another rather than everyone being in the air at once. That keeps the briefing personal and gives the instructor a clear view of the hill before each launch.
