Exploring a dive site after dark offers a completely different experience, with new behaviours, colours, and marine life emerging once the light fades. This speciality course teaches the procedures, signals, and equipment considerations needed to dive safely at night. Across three guided dives, you’ll build confidence navigating, communicating, and maintaining buoyancy in low-light conditions.
Training starts with PADI e-learning, where you’ll cover night-dive preparation, equipment considerations, and how underwater visibility changes after sunset. Your instructor will review key theory before your first dive and demonstrate torch-handling techniques and communication signals. The initial session typically takes place at twilight to ease the transition into darker conditions.
Each dive introduces new skills, including navigation patterns, managing light control, and adjusting buoyancy when depth perception is reduced. You’ll practise safe entries and exits, work through practical scenarios, and refine your situational awareness as natural light fades. With guidance from your instructor, you’ll learn to stay oriented, avoid common night-dive mistakes, and recognise the behaviours of nocturnal marine species.
On completion of the three dives, you will have developed the proficiency needed to plan and conduct your own night dives safely, with a clear understanding of how conditions shift once daylight disappears.
Night dives may take place at Dubai or Fujairah sites depending on conditions. Both regions offer accessible shore and boat entries suitable for training, with depth profiles that support controlled night-dive practice.
Fujairah sites often feature coral blocks and small rocky structures that attract nocturnal species, while Dubai locations provide stable visibility and predictable navigation lines—helpful for new night divers building confidence in low-light environments.
You must hold a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver certification or an equivalent entry-level qualification. Basic buoyancy control and underwater navigation familiarity are important before beginning night-specific skills.
Participants must be at least 12 years old and must complete their e-learning segment before the practical dives. A recent refresher may be recommended if you have not dived for some time.
This centre’s instructors have extensive experience guiding night dives and provide calm, structured support throughout the course. Their step-by-step approach helps divers adapt smoothly to low-light environments and build confidence quickly.
Safety and professionalism underpin every session, and well-maintained lighting equipment ensures you learn using reliable tools. Combined with a welcoming atmosphere and attentive planning, you’ll feel fully supported as you explore a dive site in a new and exciting way.
